ROBLOX is widely regarded as a platform for kids, however anyone who uses the website often knows that people of all ages enjoy the experiences on here. I believe parents and guardians should be largely responsible for what kids are exposed to, but when it comes to platforms such as ROBLOX, there isn’t really an ESRB rating for the platform or for individual experiences, so it can be hard to distinguish what is and isn’t allowed since the current guidelines seem pretty flexible.
To get to the point: I’m currently working on a horror project. Many horror genres on ROBLOX use lots of blood in the environment to add to the atmosphere. These aren’t just obscure experiences either, as many of them are or have been on the front page of experiences.
For example, Bloodfest is an amazing experience, and it’s been around for a while, so surely this amount of violence is tolerated on ROBLOX. My main question here is if the experiences with blood and violence do anything specific to make it allowed on the platform, or if this is just allowed in general.
Another example is Realm of the 9 Portals, an outstanding work of art, and one of the few high-quality horror experiences.
I could give more examples, but I think I’ve gotten my point across enough.
At the end of the day, the blood and gore in many of these experiences looks like nothing more than paint splatters in a blocky world, but I just want to make sure I don’t release anything inappropriate to the platform.
Also, no offense to anyone thinking this, but I’m not looking for a “If you think it’s not safe, then don’t do it, or do it on another platform” response, because:
-
I don’t want to unnecessarily limit the horrific atmosphere of my project too severely for no reason beyond believing that it has a small chance of being deemed inappropriate.
-
I want to release the project specifically on ROBLOX for multiple reasons, one of which being because I think the platform has a huge lack of high-quality horror experiences.
