I have noticed that if you like a post and wait a while, the like becomes locked and you can no longer undo. Why? Many social media have it so you can undo the likes/upvotes/hearts/whatever at any time for any reason.
If an user edits a post after a like and you no longer like it, how are you supposed to undo the like if it is locked?
What is the exact reason that here, on the Roblox Developer Forum, you can no longer undo likes unlike other forums or social media?
I have been experiencing this too, pretty annoying. I hope this is a bug, and not an actual feature by discourse.
This happens after a day I have noticed. @dibblydubblydoo It is not a bug because what if a bunch of people decide to unlike a post after a month? To not have their likes given be too high, they can just go back and unlike everything.
Likes show a post’s value, so they should stay permanent after a while.
The DevForum shouldn’t be compared with social media as there are many more posts in the latter and is more casual. Social media has huge communities in which several unlikes won’t drastically change the count. Plus, since the posting is so often, people are likely to find a specific post again than on the DevForum.
Why like something in the first place, only to unlike it in the future? I don’t understand what’s the issue with this.
This is actually default Discourse behavior. In fact, even editing is locked after some time as well, however the devforum seems to have removed this
Personally don’t support this request, but I’ll give my reasoning for why I think the feature is desired,
If someone makes a post and then later edits it to the point you no longer wish to be seen as someone who supports the post (since likes on posts are public) you may want to remove the like to show you no longer support it.
Then reply to the post and mention that you disagree with what they edited in/out and explain, it contributes to the discussion. It’s also quite rude to do something like what you’ve mentioned, so I’d personally message them to make it clear that they changed something in their post.
I would personally consider this as spam, potentially a bump if the post hasn’t been discussed in months and is no longer relevant
If you have let’s say 200 likes on a post and I decide to edit it twice in a day that’s 400 DMs I’m going to have to write, which isn’t realistically feasible
As I said, I Personally disagree with the request. Just giving a use case
I don’t think contributing to a thread is considered spam, especially if you want to make things crystal clear for future readers.
What I meant was - as a user that liked a post that was edited, I would send the author a message to request them to make it clear about what they edited in/out so the people who liked the post aren’t so helpless.
Edit:
Also I forgot to mention, but this has been discussed before:
