What is the range of the job of a builder?

I’ve been asking myself, when you apply as a builder, are you also expected to do modelling (Blender stuffs) or the modeler will be the one providing models and your only job is to place the models using only the tools in Roblox Studio?

Builder also counts as the ones who builds in Studio. Like building skills. Not necesarily the one who puts meshes on the game. There is a difference between Modeler and Builder.

I feel like builder is a term mostly used on roblox and I don’t really know what it means but I think it’s pretty much the same as a modeler but work with larger, less detailed models.

I mean, although becoming a builder on Roblox Studio, it doesn’t mean that you need to learn to model as well. Well, If you wanted to learn to model as well, then go ahead.

Its your decision. Wish you good luck

In my commission experience; the straightforward line between Builder and Modeler is whether you use external 3D software (Such as Blender or Maya) for meshes in the project.

Builders should NOT be expected to know how to use other software unless specified otherwise.

Builder is a term that applies to anyone that knows some form of modeling, whether that’s with Studio or Blender. Just like how there are different languages scripters can know (Lua, etc.) there are multiple software builders can know and knowledge of any of them counts as “being a builder”.

“Builder” is such a vague term because it lacks the intricacies of what 3D art entails. “Building” could mean map creation, vehicle modelling, character art, weapon modelling, and anything in between, when in reality these can be (and usually are) all their own defined discipline under the “builder” umbrella. There is some overlap, sure, but it’s best to say what specifically you’re proficient in, and even more important when hiring an artist to define specifically and accurately what you want them to do (as in, if you hire a character artist, don’t ask them to make house assets unless they say they can).

I say I’m an Environment Artist because while I can make characters/vehicles/tools, I’m much more proficient with map design, structure/asset creation, and prop placement, which all more accurately fall under the “Environment Artist” umbrella. It’s also the part of 3D art that I enjoy the most.
