What makes a good roleplay game experience for someone on Roblox?

I’m currently working on a roleplay game (one more akin to Bloxburg rather than a cafe group or something like a Star Wars roleplay game), and I’m curious:
What makes a good roleplay game?
Some examples would be:
What does the average player want to have access to?
Is adding too many features much a bad or good thing?
Anything else that would make the game accessible and good?

I’m bumping this as I’m also interested in this topic and other’s thoughts.

It depends on the genre, but for these answers I’ll assume it’s a Town & City RP game. If you meant a different genre let me know.
What does the average player want to have access to?

  • A lot of RP players are newer players who do not have Premium, and so have default profiles. I definitely see a lot of these players enjoy being able to customise their characters with the ‘catalogue’ or ‘morphs’ options that RP games have - especially if it saves their designs or has save slots.
  • The same goes for RP names & bios - they want everything to be accustomed as if it’s for them, they want to be able to represent whoever or whatever they please; so give them areas to do whatever job they want (usually generic).
  • In a nutshell: They want an eclectic range of choice for how they wish to be represented and portrayed.

Is adding too many features much a bad or good thing?

  • For this, you must put yourself in the eyes of a brand new Roblox player. You don’t want to be overwhelmed with interaction, you want to be able to, whilst uninterrupted, choose your own path. I think the main features any RP should have is Avatar Customisation, Name Customisation, and Role/Job Customisation. Build on from there.
  • Always ask yourself before implementing a significant feature - would I use this and enjoy it if I came across this game for the first time? Or, ask your friends, or the DevForum their brutally honest opinions about it.

Anything else that would make the game accessible and good?

  • Be sure to optimise the UI and other elements for mobile, tablet and console players - with Roblox being more accessible on mobile now, it’s crucial to ensure your game works on those devices to gain larger reach and popularity.

Best of luck to you with development  :+1:
