Hello, I’m working on developing an upcoming, unique roblox fighting game. My current dilemma is that I’m struggling to figure out what exactly makes combat fun. For context, the game is an arena fighter similar to games like ABA, but with original characters. I essentially would just like to know what other people find fun in such fighting games, as I’ve been thinking a lot about it, but I can’t really think of anything.
Hello @Bartokens !
Different games have a lot of combat systems, all different from the other, but if your game is mostly focused on combat, then you should make a good Quality combat system, and check about bugs to evade, you could take references from popular combat games, and have a list of things to do for a succesfull and fun combat experience, like:
- good movement ( it must be like real life movement, we dont want players move 5 meters for dodgin a slash )
- Dodging
- Parry ( if necessary, not obligatory )
- Stamina
- Good weapons
- Good animations
- Variation
Remember people always take references from stuff, real life, or youtube videos, thats something that usually opens your mind and helps your creativity, Hope this Works or improves your experience !
My First Devforum Reply btw
For me something that makes fun combat is it being fast-paced, and making you feel powerful. Like if you were rambo just spraying bullets to whatever you are looking at, even if you dont kill anything, its fast nature makes you feel active and engaged
But i see we are not talking about ranged weapons but for melees stays mostly the same, fast attacks, special or unique abilities, and most importantly, good balance
Also, good movement, no, good movement is not jumping and dodging and doing all sorts of parkour but rather something fast that can make you dodge attacks, but also make you vulnerable to attacks.
