What should I do to make my game unique/stand out from the others?

TL;DR: Low replayability, got copied. What should I add to make it unique and stand out from other games?

Hey fellow Developers!

A month ago, I released my first game on the platform - :meat_on_bone: Ham’s Difficulty Chart Obby. So far the game reached more than 1000 Visits in a month and had received it’s first major update, and it seems like many players out there are really enjoying the game.

However, I have noticed that out of 653 unique players, I only managed to gain 1400 Visits; this means that each player only played the game for 1-2 times, which leads to the fact that the replayability of the game is very low. To overcome this problem, I have implemented a currency system as well as a daily reward system, players can then use the currency to purchase Trails. As far as I’m concerned, the system isn’t functioning as well as I expected.

Moreover, I had found that someone copied the game (no this isn’t a call-out thread). Tbh I wouldn’t say they took “inspiration” from me as any steps that I took, they also took it.
For instance: similar lobby design, similar skybox, exact asset packs that I used, etc.

I do really hope to find something that makes my game unique and stands out from other obbies. If you have any suggestions please feel free to post it here or send me a DMs.

Thank you for your time!

You can maybe create tournaments and give rewards to the winners. Like trails, limited in-game items, etc. Just a thought.

You could made a ranking system. What I mean is that when a player finishes a level or more, he could be ranked up and have additional perks. In this way, it would be more interesting for players to try and take a higher rank. Notes: 1) I would not suggest to make the ranks too much difficult to obtain, as the players would be put off from their effort 2) If you could give a badge for each rank, that would be more attractive (but it would cost a lot)

Hiya! Tournaments seems like an excellent idea as I have not seen any DCO do it. Also, I would like to point out that the ToS prevents us to award players with Robux.

It’s a very decent idea but I’m still unsure about what power-ups I should give them due to the following reasons:

  1. The whole obby is made based on players’ default jump power and speed. This means that changing any of these factors could make the harder stages becoming too easy.
  2. They could ruin the purposes of “power-up” coils.

Badges are planned but sadly I have very little funding right now.

You’ll always have people who get stuck on a stage, they’ll usually leave and hardly ever come back.
