What so you do when your developers are not responding to you?

Hi, I am Karen with BloxyBurgers. We have grown 250 members over the past week. I hired developers and most of them are not answering my DMs. I know when they have been online because devforum uses the (2m recently) thing. Since my group is growing so fast I need my builds in. They committed to not quitting and to be active. I already committed to my customers on the stuff being out this week. What do I do?

Idk if this is the right category.

They could have any reason for not responding; first of all, I know you didn’t explicitly state this in the OP but let’s not jump to the conclusion that you’re being ghosted.

DevForum isn’t the best place for one-on-one communication. If you want fast responses I suggest a texting app such as Discord. People don’t check their DevForum messages frequently.

Also, it’s the middle of the school week. Many of us are busy with schoolwork, homework, extracurriculars, etc.

Who knows, maybe they’re just not replying because they’re currently working on your stuff! If they’re talking to you, they’re not working.

Anyway, how long has it been since you last messaged them? Devs can take up to 24 - 48 hours to reply to a single message. I’d give them time…if a week or two goes by with no communication, then you can assume they’ve ghosted you. :joy:

I just call off the commission if they don’t respond in 2 days.

@ChristmasKqren, 23 days is insane! They don’t sound very trustable…

And this is for a 10k payment.

Did you pay them already? Or do they have to do the work first?

They do work first. I spend over 100 dollars for them and they ghost me…

Yikes, so a little over 3 weeks. how sus of them!

Welp, in this case I’d just forget them and try to hire someone else like Crazedbrick1 said.

Personally when I hire someone, I check in every 3 or 4 days. Don’t pester them, it’s annoying and demotivating. Anyway, if they don’t reply within 3 days of that I message again. If no reply, I’ll do that one more time before canceling the commission. This goes for if you’re a dev communicating with your client as well.

He ghosted you? That messed up. Just tell everyone his username so they report him

Yeah. That’s probably what happened. No offense to you but, devs don’t like to be rushed or asked for updates that often. Every few days a ā€œany updates?ā€ message is fine but when you start saying ā€œis it done yet? is it almost done??ā€ that’s when I draw the line…Honestly, it’s extremely frustrating and makes me work even slower, in my personal experience. Usually devs will just update you on their own without needing to be asked anyway.

That is a call out and not allowed on the devforum. If this wasn’t against the rules everybody would be calling out their scammers. ahem ahem the guy who scammed me for 100 dollars

I think the first thing you should do is make sure they are committed, when a developer lacks commitment or motivation, little to no work gets done.

You should also check with them and make sure they know there is a deadline, and that you want it done by that time. Lastly, I’d just check with them to see if they are still working on it. Never jump to the conclusion that they are just ignoring you, they have lives, and also work on stuff on their own.

I always suggest to be flexible with developers, because no two developers are the same. Develops can be very quick to work, and others fairly slow. If you are dead set on having this done in a weeks time, you should let your developers know that and if in the worst case scenario, you might need to let them go. I don’t suggest this, but this is in the worst scenario. Let them know you need it done, and make sure they are motivated. Hope I helped,

As a commissions person myself, I can tell you that people get really annoyed when you ask for updates. I personally don’t mind the constant messages as I understand the intention behind it, but I’ve noticed most people would be better off if you pinged them every week or so asking. When asking, if you say ā€œGive me a mass updateā€ they’re less likely to give you detailed info, whereas saying ā€œHey! How’s the script/build/UI/GFX/etc going?ā€ will provide better results.

There is also something else… I believe the ā€œLast Seenā€ thing on a devforum profile is broken. Multiple times on my alt I have seen my main’s Last Seen be moments ago when I know for a fact that I have not even turned on my main pc for at least twelve hours (if not more).

(If you’re wondering, this is my main account )

Calling out people on the Developer Forum is against the rules.

Send a message to those developers saying you’ll take up another developer if they don’t respond. Wait a few days, and if they don’t respond go with another developer. Waiting 3 weeks just delays your time, don’t wait any longer.

Maybe they have a reason to, but if they continue, and you clearly don’t have progress you may hire another developers. Also, please contact me at Aleayx#0001.

As a developer who has been commissioned myself (i know right, i’m so special xdxdxd) I know it’s really frusturating when the commissioner just says ā€œhey any updates???ā€ every 15 seconds.

You also have to take into consideration that maybe something happened in their lives? Maybe they can’t talk to you right now?
