What software should I use for art?

Hello. I am pandap153, and I am in need of help.

I want to start concept art and art in general but I don’t know what software to use for it while on a budget. (I don’t like pen and paper.)

I don’t know if I should use Clip Studio Paint (220 USD or 50 USD for a worse version, but I don’t want to pay twice if I’m going to like it.) , Photoshop,10 USD a month forever.) or anything else.

I’ve looked on Youtube but I don’t know who to trust, although most people say Clip Studio Paint.

Also, Clip Studio Paint usually has lots of sales to make it cheaper as well.
I’ll be using a drawing pad too.

That’s all I’ve got for information as of this moment, so any and all help is welcome.

(If this doesn’t count for Art Support please tell me.)

What’s the technique that you’ll be using to draw? (Drawing tablet/iPad or any other tablet with a stylus/mouse and keyboard/etc.)

Personally I use an iPad with the Apple Pencil and use Adobe Fresco. I think that it comes free. Honestly not sure. If it does, you should take advantage of that. Other than that, had also a pretty good experience with Krita.

I’ll be using a drawing pad, thanks for asking. I forgot about putting that in.

Since you’re just starting out with art in general, I’d suggest trying out a free program before you invest money into it. There are plenty of great free programs out there that work just as good as a paid one!

Some free programs:

  • Gimp
  • Krita (my personal favorite)
  • Fire alpaca
  • Art weaver
  • Mypaint
  • Medibang

If you’re really settled on purchasing a program, here are some I recommend:

  • Paint tool sai
  • Photoshop (can get pricy with the monthly payments)
  • Procreate
  • Clip Studio Paint

Hope this helps! (:

I would recommend Ibis Paint X if you are on mobile and paint.net if you are on PC. Definitely use a stylus if you are using mobile or a drawing pad. Both of these programs are free!

Photoshop is 100% the superior tool, I use it all the time for my artwork.

Photoshop is very useful but I hate having to do a monthly subscription.

Clip Studio Paint’s on sale so I’ll be using that! Also because I noticed that the cheaper version was for concept art and the expensive version was for comics/manga (which I also plan to do) and has all of the cheaper version’s tools.

Thanks for all of your feedback!
