Hi there! I’ve already started and failed several projects in my developer life because of losing all the motivation. I tried starting small but whenever I did that, I ended up trying to make a large project anyway. Currently, I am again having the lack of motivation and I want to prevent it this time. What would you advise me to do? I’ve been now developing a project but before I finished it, my brain produced another project idea and it is now draining all motivation from current one. I don’t want to start the new project because I know how it will end.
Oh yeah, I can relate to that sometimes.
I think a good idea is to actually start developing further ideas and concepts about one topic, instead of working on it as soon as it knocks your mind’s door.
You should also take breaks when needed, if you don’t, you will eventually end up feeling stressed and in a bad mood, which results in loss of motivation.
Another great way (but not easy) is to have some people discuss with you about the game’s concept, it’s great for inspiration and to motivate yourself.
Not sure what do you mean
I’m on a break right now, I just hope it will actually help
I’ve already discussed it a lot with my friend and some other people. It helped but it doesn’t seem to motivate me much anymore
I’m sorry to hear that, I suggested a few things, however we are different people, so we motivate each other differently.

I meant as in actually trying to imagine and develop the concept before getting into it. To be honest, this one method isn’t really efficient for me but many people tell me it is one way to go.
Take a quick break, but not for too long. Work on it in small chunks, then come back to it. Focus on other things that make you happy. Eventually, you might start to feel better, and you will be more motivated.
Now this may sound pushy or aggressive to you, but I promise you, this is exactly what’s happening, and it’s just psychologically what’s going on.
It’s not that you lost motivation, you are just looking for an excuse not to do the work.
You are looking for a way out of having to do anything, because that’s what human beings do subconsciously. Resting, nor talking, nor new ideas will get you out of this. Take a shower, go for a run, whatever gets you energetic. And then sit down and push yourself through the first few minutes of work, no matter how boring it is. If you push yourself through the first few minutes, I almost am completely sure that you will feel happy to have completed something and keep working… Because if you truly did like this project at some point, chances are you still do like it but are being lazy (again, don’t take that in a bad way, it’s just kind of years of research).
It’s getting into that work that’s the hardest part, and if you do that, you (and any other worker no matter their profession) is more likely to keep up with it.
Start small and work to become big. Your scenario is like trying to become a huge company without prior experience of running a community. It’s easier to finish smaller projects rather than large ones.
Other tips are to take break if needed, and try to work with people in a voice call, that always motivates me.
Listen, I want you to notice a pattern with me.
My first game:Noob Vs. Thanos story - Roblox
A later game: Noob Obby - Roblox
Newest game:Guessing Master - Roblox
(Note: I took down my actual newest game because I was thinking about improving)
You may notice that the games are slowly getting more and more effort. You need to start making small games for fun. With little scripting or building. If you want, use free models.
I haven’t made anything in almost a year now because of my project. Only now I have decided to make an actual good game. This is because learning to develop isn’t all just about improving your scripting or building. It’s about your experience and inspiration. You have to slowly work your way up when doing anything big. You can’t learn to read Harry Potter in Kindergarten. You work your way up until you have more skill. I have made plenty more games that I took down for quality reasons or because, like you , they didn’t work. Part of developing is having things that don’t work. It’s inevitable. You should learn from your mistakes and understand what you need to do. It might be hard giving up your game and working on something worse. But ultimately, in the end, when you are more experienced, your game could be really good.
Hello!
Sometimes, we all can lose our motivation, especially when we fail to do such things. However, you should actually be glad to fail at the start. After each failure, you’re going to learn new things. No matter how good you are at programming, you’re going to fail sometimes. These failures are going to teach you new things, which will improve your programming skills at the end. I used to be an idiot when it came to programming a few months ago(I’m still an idiot sometimes, but anyways) but after each mistake, I started to learn new things which improved my programming skills and approach to the problems at roblox studio. So, you should be glad to fail sometimes, because you’re actually learning new things which will guide you through the path of becoming a professional developer.
This is what I follow:
Boredom
+ Project
= No Motivation
No Motivation
+ Code A Website
= Motivation
Bored of Both
= Learn C++ or C#
Bored Of All Three (RARE)
= Play Battle Royale
Bored Of All
= Take a refreshing power-nap
That usually works for me. I’d say maybe take a bike ride or actually code in a different language. When I’m sick of Lua I code in HTML/CSS/JS and later back to Lua or Python.
I’d not recommenced using free models, they are very dangerous for your games,
I have the same issue with motivation and it really took me a lot of time to understand what I like.
Take an example of this game:
breadskate simulation [SPACE!]
Check out breadskate simulation [SPACE!]. It’s one of the millions of unique, user-generated 3D experiences created on Roblox. Game Made By: nomcell, ori2007777 ,darinko, amirbr and sason8989 danzranoarans09! Fan Group Link:…
the game was a HUGE Success until other players starter making a game like this and a big youtuber named: “Jameskii” played their game and they got all the fame for it.
Most of the times I get motivated by friends but sometimes some alone time might help you alot.
My point is that even if you have not successed in a game or didn’t make it really popular then keep trying, but if you have no motivation in it Just give it up there is no point in making a game you’re not enjoy making.
those models were from a while ago, plus I removed the viruses a few months ago.
Dont worry man, I’m experienced and I know not to use freemodels.
Find inspiration to fuel your motivation. Read some inspirational quotes, listen to some inspiring music, or maybe even just go on a walk.
Just force yourself to do at least 30 minutes a day. Schedule it if you have to. Sometimes after 30 minutes you’ll get in the groove and you might keep working for another hour.
