What would you want to see in an open world game

Open world games and MMORPG games are very big projects and require a lot of good mechanics for it to be good. I have some things already written down but i wanted to know what you would want to see in a game like this.

for example:
Guilds, housing, map sizes etc.

I want directions for open world games. Most open world games don’t give you directions on what to do, I end up leaving and never coming back.

The maps should not have a lot of parts because lag.

Obviously one thing is not do another Dungeon Quest (World // Zero failed in this department), and another (Or actually something you want) is make sure the combat is engaging enough to make it fun.

While I completely agree, doesn’t this defeat the point of an open game? While yes you can do a Mario 64 like thing where it’s still technically multiple small open worlds and have a more linear path, but what about 1 large world? You could no longer explore the world and instead just do what you are told to do. Well, I guess it’s not everyone’s thing.

If one of the core features of your game is the ability for players to go wherever they want, in a vast environment, you need to add something that encourages players to use the feature. Why would someone bother running around a huge map if your progress is just as good standing in one place, or even a certain area, than it is traveling several kilostuds?

In Minecraft, players are encouraged to explore for unique locations such as abandoned temples or shipwrecks, where they can find loot unique only to those places (and, in fact, a player cannot beat Minecraft without locating the Ender Portal). In the game Starscape, players are encouraged to explore because resource-rich “anomalies” will randomly appear in more dangerous parts of space: it’s more risky, but you will progress much faster if you go exploring.

That’s what I would want from an open-world game: a reason to explore the massive landscape.

Hope this helped!

Story and plot would be very nice. (You probably already had that in mind)

I also like seeing a variety of different styles in different areas, as if each area had a different culture.

If you’re gonna make an open world game, the one thing you need to have are secrets. If a player clicks a blue spot of grass when the rest of the grass is green, give them a reward. People like to explore worlds, so reward them for doing so.

Note: I am mostly talking about an open world action/adventure game. An open world game should have some sort of team system that you can create for robux, but anyone can join for free kind of like roblox groups. I have never seen anything like that done before, but I have wanted to see something like that for a while. You might want monsters or something if its something like World Zero. Open world games should also have side quests that you can unlock by talking to people. There should also be a main story, which I think I will leave to you to decide. They should have a trading system, and pets. Something like horses would be a good idea because sometimes its a pain to try and get to places that are far away. An alternative is like waypoints that players can teleport to whenever they discover the area. Back to the point on teams, I think that there should be Alliances, and enemy’s. Teams cannot hurt allies and enemy’s will be marked with a red nametag or something. There should be some sort of level system and weapons that players can get. A money system would be essential to a game like this. There should be arenas where players can 1v1 others and watch others fight. Armor should be something for players to try and get too. One thing I really want to see is mining, in which you can craft armor and weapons, or just sell. There should be different towns or locations for players to stop and just sell or buy things. You should put limited items in game that will be on sale for a certain amount of time, but it will never come back. An auctioning system for those items would let players still have a chance to get them after they are gone by buying them from players who have them from all over the world. Your character should be customizable and there should be an option to choose your default roblox avatar. There should be secrets for people to find that will either give them a reward or not depending on what you want. The game should be long. If releasing a beta version, you need at least 4-5 hours of gameplay because there are people who play these kinds of games all day, every day. Open world games are really hard to make and require lots of time and effort, but in the end if you do it right, it can be one of the most amazing games on roblox. I hope this helped and thank you for reading!
