Hello! I’m attempting to creating a strip-mall/shopping plaza, but I have creatively stumped on how to make the border of the map look good without it being a simple “edge-of-the-world” type appearance.
I was thinking about putting in some tunnels, but the nature of a strip-mall is that it’s not defined by walls. It’s an open space with shops spread around. So, any suggestions?
Attached is the map I’m working on. It’s barren, I know, but I figured to take care of the border problem first and then work around it once I figure something out.
If you want it to look like the middle of a town or a city, then make 4-6 empty non-enterable buildings and place them around the border of the map. Keep the buildings tightly together so there are no gaps people can see through.
Behind these buildings, make another ring of slightly taller and larger buildings to make it look like the city goes on much further out than the bounds of the map.
eg.
this is what the player sees
and this is how it looks from the top down
I hope you understand what I mean. Maybe with a map like yours it’s difficult to pull off but that’s how I’d do it.
I hope this helped, good luck.
