When I add a SurfaceAppearance, it breaks the mesh (using texture generator)

okay, so im using the texture generator on the linked sword mesh to make a new texture. the first time i did this, it gave me a texture with a blue blade and black handle. it worked fine.
im trying to do this again but with a red handle, but now for some reason it completely breaks the mesh?

nevermind, i had smart UV unwrap enabled.
