When saving a published place to the local machine, you cannot save it to the cloud again unless you exit Studio

Problem

I was working on the development place in my game and decided to save it to the local machine for a backup copy. That works fine. However, when I try to save it to the cloud again before making changes, it refuses to save with the message: No changes to the place detected. Did not save. in the output. I’ve tried both options to save to Roblox and I get the same error. After making changes, sometimes it will save to Roblox again, and sometimes it won’t. I’ve experienced it both ways. The second image below shows it saving after changes were made. If it glitches and will not save to Roblox anymore, I have found that if I exit Studio, when it asks Would you like to save these changes? and I click Save, the place will save to the Roblox cloud.

What I expect to happen is that after saving the place to a file on the local machine, I should be able to immediately save it to the Roblox cloud without making changes. I also expect to be able to save the place to the Roblox cloud at anytime after changes have been made and after a backup copy of the place was made.

This occurs in Roblox Studio only. This seems to have started happening within the last update or two.

The link to the specific place that I am working on is: https://www.roblox.com/games/9167187194/The-Proving-Grounds

Reproduction

  1. Open a place from the cloud (any place will do).
  2. Make some changes.
  3. From the FILE menu, select Save to File.
  4. Follow the prompts and save the file.
  5. From the FILE menu, select either Save to Roblox or Save to Roblox As….
  6. It refuses to save with error message: No changes to the place detected. Did not save.

Workaround

I have discovered that I can save to Roblox first, then save to the local machine. However, if it glitches to where it will not save to Roblox again, then I have to exit Studio and click Save on the Would you like to save these changes? dialog that pops up when you exit Studio. Then it will save it to Roblox.

As far as I can tell, this is intended behaviour.

The computer doesn’t know exactly what your intention is, all it sees is Saved. Attempt to save, no changes made since last save, therefore, not saving, produce save fail message.

Just move your camera or select something and deselect it (as it counts as a change), then open the menus to save to Roblox or wherever you wish, This works for me.
Studio remembers where you saved last so if you try to just ctrl+s, it will attempt to save where you last saved.

Note, when saving to a local file more than once in a row, it will always save, whilst saving to Roblox more than once in a row, it will check if any changes were made.

If it is intended behavior, then it needs to be changed. There should be separate flags for saved to local file and saved to the cloud. Also, as I mentioned, it sometimes glitches where it will not save to the cloud at all, even after changes have been made. That there is an actual bug.

Thanks for the report. We are looking into it.

We recognize this is a bug but unfortunately we aren’t planning to work on now. The workarounds described can mitigate impact of this. I’m sorry for the poor user experience on this.

I agree that it’s a minor but annoying issue. Considering the other, more pressing issues that Roblox engineers are facing, I also agree with the viewpoint that it’s not a high priority right now. In any case, Roblox knows about it and has acknowledged it as a bug. Perhaps it will be corrected in the future. Other who encounter this will find this thread if they search for it.
