Which alternative looks more eye-catchy?

Hello! I made two game icons for my game (Option 1 and 2) and now I can’t really decide which one I should pick. My friends and I got really different opinions on this. I would like to know what you guys think. Which one is more eye-catchy, option 1 or 2?
(Im currently using option 1)

  • Option 1 Optn%201
  • Option 2 optn%202

Definitely first, however, none of them are really good at all, to be honest. Seeing them don’t make me interested in playing. Perhaps try to have a closeup of a rendered character vaulting over a wall or something to convey action.

Neither. In Option 1, the text is too small; in Option 2, it’s too dark.

I kinda agree with option 1. But none of them are eye catching. No offense. The text is each option is either to hard to read or isn’t a good font.

Edit: looking back, neither thumbnail pictures are eye catching either.

I will try to make the text bigger, thanks!

Thanks for your feedback. I have never rendered anything, but I may try to!

I will try to experiment with different fonts, thanks for your suggestion!

Tips I have:
Try out a vignette.
The icon background should be a slightly blurry picture of a point of interest in the game, like a bunch of players in an obby.
The text should reflect the feeling of the game. If it’s wacky and simple, try lighter colors and thick, wavy text. If it’s hard and serious, try slightly darker colors and medium text sizes.

Thanks for sharing your tips with me! I will try them out!

The option 2 has some kind of bad contrast; the text blends too much into the background making it difficult to read at first glance.

Option 1 will do, as it is not blending with the background well and the colors should clearly say: “Hey, this is the game name!”

Now I can clearly see that option 1 is better than option 2. But as many mentioned, it needs changes.

  • Option 1: Colours match each other and the background better, text is much easier to read

  • Option 2: Colours match each other but not the background, text is hard to read

  • Overall: Design is simplistic, perhaps too much so to draw in players

The orange in the first one definitely helps making it more eye catching. Like @Somnar Said, Increase the text size as it is a bit small.

I changed the text size, thanks for the reply!

I’d recommend the “Obby World” text to be larger, and perhaps an interesting outline or some word art. Also play with layer effects, such as overlays, in order to make the text really stand out from the background. Perhaps add something really eye-catching, such as flames or something - but this is my opinion. Use proper grammar for your title. In this case, it would be called “The Obby Word” rather than “The obby world”.

I think they would be nice if you add some sort of action in the background, and in the second one make the text more readable. Good for a start!

Neither looks eye-catching. Showcase more of the game, not the text. If you must include your game’s name, either make it stand out less than the actual backdrop of the game or incorporate it with a logo of sorts.

The second is much harder to read while the first pops out more. However neither of them particularly make me want to play.

I suggest including maybe 3D text, or a character running on the obby, it doesn’t stand out or appeal to me as a player right now.
