You’re probably gonna want a custom character though (imagines a demon-horse avatar joining your game with a laser gun strapped to his back)
Not just for you game but games in general:
Camera is a very important tool in game design. Designers don’t just pick a random perspective and go with it. Sometimes they are done with mechanics and balancing in mind.
See Dead by Daylight: The slasher is 1st person so they can’t see behind them and slightly to their sides, survivors are in third person to add the advantage of more information and allowing smart plays.
Do you need the player Character in view? In Batman, the character is always in view for some reason? Maybe to tell a statement that they are controlling Batman and not some themselves or other characters?
Typically exploration games are uses either, it’s up to the game designer to pick which one. To pick the right one for the correct game feel. There is tons of meaningful choices behind camera perspective.
Why go for 3rd person?
Why go for 1st person?
There are obviously more questions to help you choose which one to use, but I’ve only listed the most useful ones.
If you want to pick the right one for your game, try studying games. Pick a game and imagine what the game would be like if the camera view where something else entirely? Or can try testing and get feedback, however I wouldn’t recommend this. Only change it if you get complaints.
There is also user preference. Which is a ROBLOX concept. Allow the player to play in 3rd person, or 1st person.
