Hey, I’ve been thinking about this for a while.
So, I’m trying to make a fighter jet.
(if you know what plane this is gg)
My main question is how I want people to control it.
I’ve played a couple games to kinda get a feel of how they go about controlling jets and I’ve narrowed what I want down to control using the mouse, but there are a few different methods of doing this.
Here are my 2 favorite with their pros and cons.
1- Simplified Mouse Control
You probably know it, where you mouse goes, your plane does too. Probably with bank angle systems.
-Pros-
- A good show of my scripting capability
- Easy to fly and use
-Cons-
- Not realistic
- Anyone can fly well, even without experience, making the average player an insanely good pilot and dismisses the need for actual training (long story short this is for a group and i want people to be trained in what they do and stuff.)
2- Simulated Mouse-Joystick
Might not be as well known, but basically, your mouse position determines the rotation of the control surfaces. More realistic than simplified.
-Pros-
- Realistic
- Looks cool (lol)
- Requires knowledge on how to fly aircraft or of the aircraft in general.
-Cons-
-Harder to fly (kinda intended so not a major con)
-Simplified is also cool
-Simplified is modern.
OK, I came here today to ask for your opinions, I appreciate any feedback or additions to what I’ve come up with.
Disclaimer: I want it to be realistic, I don’t want it to be too arcade-y. I plan on this to be realistic for the immersive-ness and the real difficulty of flying and the training that is required for such things.
Again, any help is useful and I appreciate if you sat through my entire rant.
(Sorry if this is the incorrect category.)
Thanks
-Luke
