Which game style do you prefer?

Hello! Scythe here! I have a question for everyone today! Let’s say you just got home, you go on roblox but find there aren’t any good games! You try and search up your favorite game style in hopes of finding a good game for you to play, what would that game style be? Cartoony, realistic, etc…

So, what’s your favorite game style, and why?

  • Cartoony
  • Realistic
  • Other (please state)

I like both cartoony and realistic styles, but overall, my favourite style would be sci-fi/futuristic, I find them very fascinating because they just look like something out of this world. Overall, I would prefer something like Realistic sci-fi/futuristic.

Ah, okay thank you! I’d agree sc-fi is pretty cool! Since (mostly) everything futuristic is in my opinion! It totally crossed my mind when making this post!

Realistic is more appealing, stunning and inspiring.

After reconsidering, I don’t think either make a game good.

A cartoony but dynamic map, with motion and life (leaves moving in the wind, grass moving side to side, wild life) can make a game feel alive and immersive.

But a realistic static map (nothing is moving, trees are all anchored with no leaves moving, grass doesn’t move, no wild life) can feel stale and boring really quick.

I think you’re misunderstanding why you may feel there are no good games, it may be a matter of UX (User Experience) rather than graphics.

I’d much prefer a baseplate where I can craft weapons and battle with friends than a gorgeous map that all I can do in is just click a button to increase some sort of “points” on a leaderboard.

EDIT:
Arguably one of the most IMPORTANT things to think about in your map though that people often forget, is sound, the sound of your foot pressing against the grass with each step, the sound of the crickets on the ground, the sound of insects buzzing by your ears.

I am a fan of an engaging experience. I find cartoony games and realistic games that are both engaging, so it’s not really about the style of the game for me. A simple, easy-to-use UI and simple mechanics are so important for me. I don’t care what the style is; if it can’t be simple, then it’s unlikely for me to get hooked.

Simple doesn’t have to mean “easy”. Simple means a set of buttons or controls that don’t consume 10 fingers and half of your toes. Simple UI means it adds to the game, instead of feeling cluttered or too small. These I believe are more important than the game.

But if I had to choose, I think the cartoony games are on average better (possibly due to Roblox being pretty cartoony to begin with).

I would personally say realistic as I find it a lot more visibly appealing rather than cartoony but cartoony is good if it isn’t too “over the top”.

Definitely cartoony.

I like over-the-top animations / full of life games that give me high-energy. Like tralalah said, Roblox is already on the cartoony-side, it already benefits from this characteristic.

I really enjoy Cartoony. It’s fun to create games around that style! But recently I’ve been getting into the realistic games, asking myself “how realistic can Roblox get?”
In conclusion, I would say I like both equally and it just depends.

I love realistic but i honestly prefer cartoony, i always like low-poly style because its just simple!

Whenever I see cartoony games I almost always associate them with simulator games, and when I see realistic games I always feel that it gets too realistic…? It’s hard to describe but I think you’d need a coin with 2 sides; a stylized realistic of sorts. Imagine getting the almost comedic vibes of cartoony designs, but the normalized feeling of realistic designs. I don’t know how to describe it without sounding dumb, so just take your own interpretation on what I said.

Overall, I’d like to see more unique visuals on Roblox that aren’t lowpoly or showcase realistic. There’s too many games with lowpoly/untextured visuals (some people say lowpoly while it’s high poly but just smoothplastic) and realistic games most of the time have a strange boring feel and it feels unoptimized even if it is optimized. What I’d like to see is a more stylized and more unique visual style, maybe a style that’s lowpoly but with high resolution textures or something.

I have a preference for Isometric games styles. I find them pretty uncommon is Roblox nowadays. Voxel is another one

Very interesting vote/question, I love it. My style was and will be always realistic. Finding out that the possibilities and quality of games and development are endless, is very amazing. I have seen tons of realistic showcases and it really inpsires me and tells me that we can create a very detailed game such as GTA 4-5’s building (Personally it because that’s what I’m doing). I really want Roblox to be more mature on game content and have games that use realism in it. Realistic is basically inspiring.

You’re pretty wrong. Realistic can be a lot more appealing, alive and immersive than cartoony. Cartoony first and foremost uses blocky styled or low poly trees, which have no feel of realism.

Basically low poly is smooth plastic. What you mean is cartoony style.
