Which round ending sounds more fun & replayable?

Game: Clone Infection!

Premise: An infection game where 1 random player is selected to start the infection, all players they infect become a clone of their avatar (eventually leading to an army of identical clones).

The survivors have to find and press all the buttons around the map in order to do either two things…

ONE: Open the Exits to escape the map

OR TWO, Get a gun to fight back against the clones

Which one sounds more fun and replayable TO YOU?

Here is my list of pros and cons for each

  1. Open the Exits to escape the map.
    Pros
  • Is easier to balance the clones and survivors.
  • Makes the objective more straightforward; puts more emphasis on surviving.
  • Allows for more difficult button hiding spots.
    Cons
  • Walking into an exit isn’t as fun as shooting clones.
  • Clones can camp exits, have to make exits invisible to them or something.
  • Makes the game feel kind of like a flee the facility copy.
  1. Get a gun to fight back against the clones.
    Pros
  • Very original
  • Makes game more replayable (my opinion).
  • Revenge is fun.
    Cons
  • Harder to balance clones and survivors
  • cant make button hiding spots as hard.
  • Mobile players are at a disadvantage. b/c shooting is harder on mobile

Very intriguing game premise! Both are pretty good ideas, actually! It just depends on the type (the genre) of game you’re going for.

I’d say it depends on the theme you’re going for - escaping via exits emphasizes survival aspects of the game, whereas getting a weapon leans into action-fighting. What kind of genre are you hoping Clone Infection to be? A realistic horror game like Flee the Facility, an action shooter like Rivals, or something else?

To me, the gun aspect would probably be the most fun at some times, but I’d probably be in the mood for exit doors if I’m feeling more like a strategy game.

Bonus question - do you have a link to your new game? Then people can try it out!

Option 3: Add both as different gamemodes
If you just wanted one option, it really depends on your vision of the game, though I’d prefer the guns, just make the clones fast or something.

I’d probably prefer the guns but you could also add melee weapons as well and power up items that would make it more interesting to play both as a clone and as a survivor.
