Who Can Send Friend Requests Account Setting

With the new system of friends / followers, it would make sense if ROBLOX provided a way for us to filter friend requests more easily. I am not really interested in most peoples’ Friend Requests, but I still get notifications of them.

There should be an account setting (ie., in /My/Account) for “Who can send friend requests” which would have options “No one”, “Users I follow”, “Everyone”. It seems like the most reasonable default setting would be “Users I follow”.

[strike]At the same time, the “Who can follow me” permission should be clarified, because I’m almost certain it refers to following to a game, rather than following users – this is now ambiguous.[/strike][sup]This has been fixed[/sup]

EDIT: One clarification; this would likely only apply to the website. Following in game doesn’t generate a persistent notification, so there isn’t any problem with allowing players to send FRs in game.

I had to double check and see if this wasn’t already a setting because it’s so obvious.

I really don’t like how I get a red dot notification for friend requests. I only care about messages. And dismissing all friend requests is even worse because I’d have to do it 40 times a day to keep up, rather than ignoring the dot (which might mean messages or friend requests, ugh)

That’s actually a good idea.
I find it really annoying, even though I only get like, 5 friend requests a day.

Also add a Mutual Friends setting for people who can send you friend requests (and messages for that matter).

(A mutual friend would be a friend of one of your friends)

It would also be great if we had like tick boxes to select which categories can send us messages/trades instead of a drop down with only 1 category.

Getting friend requests from random people doesn’t bother me that much.

You have to keep in mind that not everyone gets the same amount of friend requests as you. You may only get a friend request here and there, but that isn’t the case for everyone. As mael displayed previously, some aren’t as fortunate as to receive a manageable amount of friend requests. This influx of friend-request spam hides whether they have new PMs or not, and that can be extremely frustrating. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t bother you much – it’s not geared towards you. It’s geared towards everyone who is spammed with unwanted friend-requests on an hourly or minutely basis.

I don’t mind ignoring them - I used to get quite a bit (around 100+ a day). The only thing that I’m worried about is people who I actually know sending me a friend request without telling me or somebody important without me realising and I decline them.

Misread your post and speaking of declining, it gets really annoying when you decline a friend request and people keep sending it over and over

After re-reading your post though, yeah, it bothers me when someone sends me a request and I don’t get the chance to know why (I set my PMs to friends/people I follow only to avoid spam) – it’d be nice if they bought the reason box back for friend requests.

Also, just because you don’t mind ignoring them doesn’t mean others feel similarly~

I get that, however I never decline them… So I have 1k friend requests pending, the red notification doesn’t bother me, I always open my navigation menu to check for messages.

Plus, keeping all those friend requests keeps my self esteem up! :stuck_out_tongue:
