Why am I getting lots of thumbs-downs on my game?

I do not understand why people so frequently are downvoting my game, Slither 3D:
https://www.roblox.com/games/8597844216/Slither-3D

I’ve done a lot of work to make it user-friendly and fun. I’ve tested on every device.

Some people really enjoy it, while others seem to hate it right away. I’ve checked the logs and I don’t see any errors or technical reasons why people can’t play.

What’s hard, is I don’t have any way to know why people thumbs-down. So I would like to see if any people on the forum could please play my game. You don’t have to like it. But if you don’t like it, I would really love to know why. Please, be brutally honest. It’s important that I collect authentic feedback, especially negative, so that I can fix whatever I can to help improve the game’s rating.

it’s because of the people that constantly kill you over and over when you respawn

1 - game too boring - circles are the same color, not much players. For players you can try make “bot”, but it’s probably hard. Also, add decorations to borders. Because it 3D, add some trees, houses, mountains / stars, planets, satelites / stones, dead trees, lava. Also the floor is boring too - just lava / dirt / hexagons texture.
2 - speed boost is useless - it goes after 1-1.5 seconds and almost not giving any boost.
3 - break don’t work.
4 - there’s 1 long snake that kills everyone - server “leader” with 500+ length.
5 - when maps changing, game lagging.
After trying your game, I can say that I don’t want play it anymore. Sorry. (I won’t like/dislike it)

Well you need to know that roblox has a gigantic amount of cynism everywhere, you’ll notice it right away.

You could be literally about to make a garbage decomposer that turns anything, even garbage, into food that can cure cancer and three roblox users would say “no, just no, what if the food had pickles? it would be a nightmare for pickle haters, just give up”

SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES.

You’re also playing with kids here, if you don’t satisfy them in the first 3 minutes they join you’re going voted down. If they have to wait for a prolonged amount of times for the game to load (which usually is the issue) to end up in a laggy game that burns the phone, you’re going voted down. You need to be careful, perhaps optimize it for mobile users who have, like, 2013 phones, right? enough to run it ok, so you know how often issues come. And avoid loading screens, maybe make them join a solo match then be slowly transported into a server, which does take a loading screen, yes, but it doesn’t matter because you can play the game in that loading screen.

This is some great feedback. Thanks! I think all of your points are valid and I’m going to try to address all of them with development and game changes.

Maybe what is hard for people to understand, is that basically this gameplay is an homage to Slither.io. Slither.io is “boring” in the sense that you just slither around and PVP other players. Slither.io has the same problems as being bullied by larger players, etc.

I thought I should maybe change the name to Slither Simulator, because I don’t want to give the impression it’s actually 3D. It’s 3D in the sense that it’s made up of spheres instead of flat circles. But it’s basically the same game as Slither.io, which doesn’t have a bunch of other things like trees, etc, and takes place on a similarly square playing area.

To answer your concerns, Boost and Brake get stronger with increased Rank. It’s kinda like a Simulator in more ways, because you have to build up to better and better abilities. When you start out on Rank 1 the Boost and Brake and Magnet are intentionally not as strong as a Rank 20. I’m starting to think the name Slither Simulator might better describe the game and be less of a “let down” when people might expect to not Slither around on a flat plane.

Again, thanks for the feedback, and I appreciate anyone else who can take the time to inform me what their experience was like, bad or good.

Okay. here you get another problem with ranking:
1 - idk how your ranking work, but my rank bar filled and i don’t receive any rank up.
2 - server can contain 1 player with 20 rank, and all other players will have 1-3 ranks. “Good” situation, because 20 ranked player can just kill another big 1-rank player. Due to losing progress, that 1-rank player will dislike your game, because childs don’t like lose in situations like this.

Many have given you a lot of constructive criticism on your game and how to improve it. I agree with them for the most part. However, adding some texture and decreasing the map’s size won’t solve your problem. That is because you have to understand how your playerbase rates your game.

The majority of people would not rate a game purely out of objectivity (whether it’s because of the good environment you’ve built or the advanced scripts you’ve created), but instead on their reaction to playing (how it made them feel). For instance, this is why obstacle course-related games have generally speaking low ratings yet attract a huge amount of players nevertheless. They’re very entertaining, but can be quite frustrating to the player as the deaths start to pile up. This seems obvious, but it’s not really as clear. In your case, in my opinion, the fact the game reminds me a lot of the real slither.io decreases the unique factor. And since this game most likely attracts a younger audience (you’ll have to fact-check that with Developer-Stats), constantly dying because of larger snakes can be very infuriating to them. Hence where the dislikes came from.

So in essence, try working on that game experience more in order to make it more pleasant and less maddening if you want to decrease the number of dislikes. But personally, I wouldn’t stress all that much with dislikes since they don’t really do as much.

Hey thanks again, I’m sorry to hear you had some issues with the game. I’ll do my best to make that more obvious in a future update. When your rank bar filled up, this is kind of like when your “Backpack is full” in a simulator. You have to return home (kill your slither) to access the Rank screen where you can rank up. Your point is really important though, because now that I think about it, other Simulators have a big popup to tell the player their storage is full. I bet I can make an in-game Rank-up! Just thought of that. You shouldn’t need to kill your Slither just to Rank up! Thanks for the inspiration.

Yes, this is great feedback, thanks so much, it is very thoughtful, and you’re right, sometimes the frustration can actually be engaging, even though it could be negative and also bring downvotes, this is really insightful. You are right, there is a lot of younger users, and I have had requests for a more free-form mode instead of only PVP. I’ll be sure to address that in a future update! Maybe a new game mode, or a shield mechanic so players have a way to protect themselves? Ideas are welcome :snake:

either cause it’s seriously bad or the servers are mainly empty

Seeing as a lot of users critique of empty servers, you should try making experience based AI! (If you don’t have it already, that is… I’d test the game out now, but Roblox is currently down) Good luck!
