Why are my models so bad?

  1. What do you want to achieve? I really like modelling, its almost a comfort hobby,
and modelling weapons is another level of comfort.

  2. What is the issue? I look up tutorials at times to see what others can do, and get frustrated and demotivated due to the fact EVERY single one looks better than my entire armory.

  3. What solutions have you tried so far? I haven’t, and that’s the issue. I really want to improve, but its not helping the fact my weapons aren’t even close to being considered “good” in retrospective.

I have been modelling continuously for like 2-3 months now, maybe even more, but just don’t know how to improve. If you need a textured image I can send it, but please see if you can give me any solutions.

Its me again. They aren’t bad they arent just that textured and detailed. They are quite detailed but not that detailed. Try adding more ddetail and better texyures to them.

What exactly as in details? Cause I follow references 1:1, you might not see it in these pictures due to the fact its bland textured.

You mean like its not 3 dimensional enough? Or anything else?

Yes! Its not 3-dimensional enough. Looks low poly, and flat.

What do you intend on me to do?

For 2-3 months, the weapons you have made are amazing. The only way to improve is to keep modeling. The more you model the better the outcome and the more confidence you gain in your creations.

To boost your efficiency and achieve more detail, use some tools or addons like HardOps & Boxcutter; it does cost money but if you’re really interested in modeling then its a worthy investment.

Another thing is texturing. Unwrap your model and import it into a texturing software like Substance Painter (recommended) or Quixel Mixer. It will make the whole process a lot more difficult, but the outcome is usually 1000x better than projecting a grunge map on the model.

My last point, stop comparing your current models to those which are objectively better, instead look at those models and figure out why they turned out so good and try to learn something from it.

TL:DR Practice makes perfect, stop comparing your models to better ones, and consider investing in tools, and start learning to texture and unwrap your models.

This is a UMP-45 as you can see. Look at your model and look at this. See the difference? Depth. It needs depth. Like grooves etc.

Alright, tysm. Ill consider all these tips and definitely be better in the future. Thanks again!

Honestly, the only difference I see is the difference in textures and tad details. Ill try improving.

Edit: and again, the references I use are usually 1:1.

The models look good. The only thing they’re missing is way more detail on them to make them look realistic.

What do you suggest I could add to them?

More lines and curves to make them look like real guns.

your models are very good but if you want them realistic a good tip is to watch tutorials about blenders tools so you can learn a few new things that could help spice up your models.

Thank you, I have definitely done more of that now.

Yeah, I knew to do that cause I struggled with the same problem then I watched blender tools tutorials I found out so much new stuff with that.

what do you mean? these models look great!

There will always be someone whos better at modeling then you no matter how high your skill is. Same with anything, animation, cooking, scripting, sports, ect…

There will also be a lot of people that have lower skill then you. (thats not a bad thing)

We are always learning and try to remember to be happy with your skills now. I think these models look great. Hey i would even say they look better then some front page game models.

It can be demotivating to see someone whos “better” then us at our skill we want to get good at but remember they spent years to get like that. Try to think of it like (One day if i keep practicing I can get to this level or higher!)
