Why are people attracted to specific games?

So me and my friend started a Tower Defense project like a month ago, and I have been thinking of something. How are we even going to attract players by just making a very normal tower defense game?

So I started this topic and hoping people would answer this question. What features / elements attracts players ( it can be you ) the most? Is it because of the guis? The concept of the game? I would appreciate if you could answer the question, thanks.

you need to Focus on concept make it different like i will give example
Tds = Cool graphic and animation
Tower Battle = Original Tower Defense
Tower blitz = Have 2 path upgrade
(I need to delete it since i don’t know it gonna break the rules or not)
so every tower defense game have different concept you should make it new gameplay

Everyone has their own tastes, but most like to keep the same atmosphere, if your whole game is low poly, you are not going to put something hyper-realistic, right?, is unpleasant in a way.

For example, Tower of Hell has a low poly style more or less, it is relaxing to watch, although you stress about falling in the last level, it would be strange to find something of another artistic genre.

How about you, what games do you enjoy and why do they attract you? ( I’m looking for opinions from different people )

I like the low poly style with not very bright colors, maybe blue or pastel colors, it is simple, it does not tire your eyes and it lets you concentrate.

It really just needs to be unique. What separates your tower defence game from all the others? Are there any new or unique mechanics? New or unique visuals?

No one wants to play a tower defence game that’s just a clone of Bloons TD or a clone of ATD. There needs to be a unique aspect to your game, that either really intrigues players or makes the experience radically different.

My friend doesn’t get it, I tried to explain this to him.

I don’t know if this is a joke or not, but where did you get women from?

Edit: It’s Arena Tower Defense. That’s an interesting game concept.

How exactly do they not understand? What are they telling you? Try forming an analogy.

If he thinks that he makes the zombie models very futuristic and cool, the game will be popular even though the mechanics that we currently made is exactly same as a normal tower defense game.

i usually play games because theyre one of 3

  1. really unique in some way
  2. just satisfying
  3. addictive

in that specific order. roblox td is kinda boring right now, compared to like plants vs zombies, that game has fast games (roblox usually has +20min which is zzz) satisfying vfx, and a unique map layout

for your game, you can obviously look at any category and change it. Towers, map, enemies, sound design, round layout (like rounds with 3x speeds would be unique, if player can activate spells it would be fast paced and tense) aaand so on

Same, I think the rounds are too long in tower defense games.

As other people have said, uniqueness is the most important aspect to any Roblox game you want to be successful. I can’t give you anything on this unfortunately.

It is also important that your game is replayable in two ways: firstly, (satisfying) progression, and secondly, different ways to play. For a tower defence game, this includes different maps (both layout/strategically and visually), unlocking new towers (both actual new towers and new visuals), new types of enemies and a general leveling and achievement system.
You can then monetize certain aspects of the game which quicken the progression or provide special visuals.

This is just a quick, from the top of my head response, I hope it helps : )

People getting attracted to specific genres of games. In example a fighting or adventure genre. But they don’t want play same games of that genre. That’s why most games have their mechanics that not all games of that genre have.

Examples:
Minecraft: Probably the only survival game where you can change the whole world!

Combat Mayhem: a fighting game with cool combat system and destruction mechanic.

Plane Crazy: a sandbox game where you can create cool mechanical things!

Valorant: a shooter (basically csgo) + magic

Fortnite: battle royale + building ability

Plants vs Zombies: a TD with a fast and easy gameplay

Vampire Hunters 3: Murder mystery + a lot of mechanics.

Tower Blitz: a TD with 2 ways of upgrading a tower

Here some ideas for unique mechanics to your TD type game that can start your brainstorm.

Spawn a boss every 5-10 round and give him a debuff move that he will spam (in example stun or make fire rate lower and etc) with a cooldown sure. You can spam this boss after defeating him but I advice without a debuff move or this gonna be hard (at least nerf his debuff if you want it to be).

Give players a move too. Let’s call it a bomb. In the start of game players have 3 bombs (5 is max). And let in example this move will give a major damage to enemies in choosen zone. Everytime new game starts give players a choose of bomb attack.

Add a score value. It will increase everytime your tower hits someone. Each 1000 score player will get a bomb. Or you can do it so they can buy it with cash.

Hope it helped!
