Why can't my obby game attract players?

Hello all,

I’ve recently produced my third or fourth complete project to the public and observed people who played it.

The results were as following:

  • Players joined, quickly realised what they had to do,
  • Died a few times but didn’t give up at first,
  • Then they played for about 5-10 stages and then quit the game.

I just want to know the reason behind this, maybe the obby is too hard, or players raged quickly, or boring, or something else.

It’d be great if you could try it and lend me back feedback on it and what made you get bored.

(The game is specifically for the younger audience)

Thank you for reading all of this, and your time.

Theres millions different obby games, your doesn’t have anything that would make it standout

Why would I play your game if theirs millions of other (and better) “Easy Obby” games?

Make sure to move this to #help-and-feedback:creations-feedback

If you want the honest answer, its because its cliché and boring to do for most people - theirs already good obby alternatives out there and the way people will look at your game is “it is just another obby”. If you want your game to be playable, you have to come up with a unique idea for it.

You have a point, thank you.

Could you get deeper into what can I implement to attract players?

Oh, thanks!
Will look further into that.

An example of a “unique” idea maybe? One that’s like those Barry’s Prison Run sorta stuff?

I just played and I think i got sufficient information to give an review and my experience. I used to play game like this back in 2017. A lot of users are mobile player, and they’re likely to be a child playing game. I noticed this obby game hardly attract younger player so you might wanna change your game thumbnail that looks so promising.
You can also improve your game experience by adding music that makes them relaxed when playing game.
You can also add some rewards when they reach to next stage. This will make player feel like they’re being rewarded when you keep playing game.

I want to attract the younger audience.

I’m currently checking out your game, one of the first things I notice is that the GUI buttons feel pretty big.
I have a large monitor on which the buttons feel a bit… distracting to say the least.

Second, the colors and saturation is WAYYYYY too high and bright.
Even in day light looking at this on my monitor is rather unpleasant considering I’m pretty much bombarded with bright colors and whatnot.

There’s also no option for muting music (for people who want to play in silence or have their own music).
Though, the music seems to stop on it’s own at some point.

I might continue playing the game for a bit to see if I notice further things, so far it looks like a typical obby game besides the textures which I think are a somewhat nice touch.

Edit 1

So upon playing a bit further.
I know this is supposed to be an easy obby, but some of the stages are so easy that you barely have to do any effort for them which makes them not very interesting.

The whole point of the game is to be easy, but some parts are TOO easy.
Even easy mode in games typically have at least a little bit of a challenge to keep the player interested.

And then you have specific parts like these where you essentially have to “guess” the correct door or you die?

This guess=the-correct-door game I never quite understood in obbies.
I haven’t found any hints on which door is right or not.

I somehow just guessed the correct doors on a first try but there’s no hint at which door is deadly and which isn’t.

I didn’t meant to say that. I edited the post and thank you.

For a game to standout it needs to be innoative and brand new!

While I do believe that this could partially be because of the unoriginality like others are suggesting, the first thing I noticed was the name. The name “Easy Obby” isn’t necessarily memorable and probably won’t show up if you search this name. I would recommend changing this.

Also, give yourself some time. It seems that the game was created like last week and you’re already worried about visits. They’ll come eventually. A much younger me once made a (now privated) obby by the name of “Really Easy Obby”. This game didn’t pick up any traction for a while, until I got about 11k visitors in the span of 7-10 days. I ended up deleting the game right after though because it just seemed disingenuous to me.

Hopefully you enjoyed my rant. Again, I would really recommend just scrapping the idea altogether and making something unique. But if you want to push this “easy obby”, I’d say change the name and wait it out.
