So last month me and my friend made a unique Flying Obby game which requires quite a bit of skill to play just like the Bike Obby(our first game pls no bully for making an Obby game). We spent a total of 7k robuxs to sponsor the game and made back 0 robuxs… We believe our game has potential and that our main problem is we suck at advertising especially when our budget is incredibly low. However I want to hear from other dev’s opinon about the game. Please give a feedback, it will help us a lot thank you.
Here is the link for the game
What’s the average play time? This game definitely has potential, I suspect that you advertised to the wrong audience. Also what did the ad looked like? (I just realized you said sponsor)
The game looks great and also got a good looking thumbnail, etc. I really have no idea why it fails. You should try putting a few more robux int the sponsorship but that’s all I can say for now.
The fact that your game isn’t successful kinda scares me because I’m about to release some obbies in the next few months.
I really have no idea why it doesn’t perform better.
Thanks a lot I really appreciate your feedback. The average play time was 8 minutes. We played around with the sponsoring to figure out which one was the best choice, but none of them were significantly doing better…
I really enjoyed the game. Considering its something I wouldnt play it seems really good. I tested the game and it seems after level 20 I crash? I tested 2 more times to make sure it wasn’t my computer but still same issue as soon as I got to level 20 I crashed.
Overall my opinion, I think it is an amazing concept and an amazing game but maybe your ads? I have not seen them but it might be reaching the wrong audience or maybe people have tried it and it may not have worked out to be a enjoyable game for that audience.
Other than that i think its awesome. Keep up the good work!
List of Feedback:
-
Building off another game:
- I think to mentioning another game leads to a smaller audience. Instead of building off the success of one game, I’d make this game have it’s own identity. (not mentioning “Obby But You’re on a Bike” at all.) I don’t think that’s the main issue as to why the game “failed” though.
-
Oversaturated market:
- There are so many obbys on Roblox that people might not give games in the genre a chance. This game has a something to set it apart though: flying. So, the oversaturated market does play a role, but it’s not the only issue.
-
Thumbnail:
- The thumbnail kind of matches, but doesn’t really show the gameplay.
-
Feedback about the game itself:
- At first, I was very confused. It’s fun, but very laggy.
- The timer should start at the first wall, not when you first join.
- UI - Could be better, it’s inconsistent throughout the game.
- The walls of text aren’t great. I think most would not read it all.
- Music - It doesn’t match sometimes, but it’s not horrible.
- There’s a chest at spawn that says to like the game for more codes, but there’s nowhere to input codes from what I’ve seen.
I could probably go into more in-depth feedback, but I think this is sufficient. Maybe the lag was my laptop, but that was something I was constantly having issues with.
I think the game could get more popular with different marketing tactics. I think Roblox’s system for ads and sponsors is terrible for the amount people spend. Note that I haven’t used it myself, but I’ve seen many posts on the forum. I’d personally research YouTubers who play obby games and send a professional email about your game, asking them to play it for a video.
Random aside: A better looking UI and environment isn’t imperative to success on Roblox. The main thing is UX and having good/satisfying ‘game feel’. (SFX, VFX, game loop, etc.)
Definitely not the gameplay then, you just lack recognition. Ads honestly don’t do so well for small developers. You could try collaborating with small UGC creator and do free UGC, or hit up some influencer to check out your game. Those options can get the game pretty popular with a 5-10K budget.
Also I forgot to mention some stuff
- The timer starting upon joining felt odd.
- Trails as cosmetics aren’t cool enough! Wings/Jetpacks would be dope!
- More variety of stages, I see a lot of the same ones.
- Near the end of the obby, I thought the wording could be better. “Don’t get too cocky” seems inappropriate for a game like this.
- Consider upgrading the stretched thumbnail to something more clean and expressive.
- And adding more non copyright variety of music, it was quite repetitive.
- Add premium & friend benefits!!!
Other than that, I wish you good luck!
Gameplay aside, theres also marketing the game before release to build up hype and/or attention, this way when your game releases there will be hundreds, if not, thousands of players on your game, not a 100% guaranteed method, but its the most effective method I can think of.
Thank you for taking your time and effort to make this brillant feedback! I like how you mention small details aswell which is very helpful. My favourite advice from you was " research YouTubers who play obby games and send a professional email about your game, asking them to play it for a video." We will make good use of your feedback, so thank you very much!!
The game is very fun!!! Well done! It’s just that the UI has several fonts, just make 1 font for the whole game, also the UI itself, is just not good. There is no idle anim for flying. And the skybox is kinda bad even though it’s the same that is in the thumbnail. Also the thumbnail itself feels kinda like, idk how to say it, maybe try like a Cartoony bacon flying.
Overall, don’t give up on your game, I recommend you to post on social media, tiktok and YT… etc. and maybe try paying a YouTuber to play your game.
Here are some feedbacks:
-
Add a huge fly button GUI with green and red on Mobile so it’s much easier to fly
-
Shift-Lock
-
Better Music
-
More challenge
-
Continuous Flying (excluding spawn)
-
Better UI
-
Better Thumbnail/Icon
This game does need…
…More Creativity
The game feels very copy paste and doesn’t give me a reason to play.
If your game is lesser-quality than another similar game, then why play the more boring and lesser-quality game?
It takes WAY to much from Obby But You’re in a Bike
.
It’s also really basic TBH. People like more creative games (Piggy, DOORS👁️, Jailbreak, etc
). You’re following a trend which will die out soon. The games I just listed had more creativity, and was successful.
By the way, I’m not trying to be harsh, it’s just the game has alot off issues that should’ve been caught during and before development.
Maybe instead of sponsoring in Roblox, which has a lot of competition, especially during the weekends, maybe contact an influencer, and ask them if they can play your game. Overall the game looks pretty nice, but maybe change the UI a little bit so that it resizes or changes depending on your screen size because I had this issue.
This is a very good game. I personally wouldn’t use sponserships because they have very low ROI considering you may not have a lot of funds to promote it that way. What I would do is post gameplay of it on social media. Instead of flashy GFX for the thumbnail I would use screenshots of actual gameplay but removing UI elements. The style is very good and the idea is creative.
Again, this game is very good. This was made a month ago. Have faith and your playerbase will grow.
