Why don’t many developers use voice actors?

I’m thinking of starting a project soon (horror/story) and I plan to make use of voice actors. I’m curious as to why more game devs don’t hire voice actors? Is it because of funding? Lack of connections? Not considered necessary?

A lot of voice actors overcharge

I feel like most games on roblox dont require voice actors

Prob because people dont really mind that much about voice.
They come to play, and most of them wouldn’t even turn on audio.

There’s plenty of voice actors that charge only $5 for 150 words which should be enough to voice an entire character. (I’d leave a link but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post a link to that platform)

That’s alright. But I’ve seen roblox specific voice actors for £15 for 150 words. And £1 = $1.15 (roughly)

But I have seen a lot worse, such as £15 for 50 words.

I find games like Doors that make heavy use of audio cues to be very engaging. Although I might be bias because I’m an adult, I don’t think most children care/noice audio nuance.

That’s true most games don’t require voice acting. In fact, I don’t think any game on Roblox requires voice acting because devs can just use subtitles. However I feel including voice actors could make the game feel more polished/more engaging.

Yeah I mean definitely depends on the genre of game, like a racing game you could hire one to say the countdown but then again i feel like something that small, a dev would just do it themselves also its not even needed either, you could just replac it with a sound
