Why is our game's Statistics so low?

Evening,

I’ve been working on a game in the past couple months with a friend, and it has been getting some traction recently with 2k+ visits.

We’re wondering as to why it’s statistics (E.g. new user playtime) are low and it’s search impressions are plateauing. Can someone give us some feedback?

When I first joined the game and did the tutorial I got so overwhelmed by the amount of UI on the screen I just quit 2 minutes later

I think the tutorial should also be a bit more forceful
like it should force me to do an objective that shows me how to play the game instead of me just clicking arrows and reading through the text how to play

I think just doing that would improve retention enough for people to play a little longer

Thank you!

What do you mean by a objective that shows you how to play the game? Are you suggesting to let the player figure the mechanics out by themselves instead of reading how they work?

Also, which UI are overwhelming you? The statistics at the top or the menu buttons?
I could try condensing some buttons to the same menu such as the audio settings at bottom right and make the left side buttons appear/disappear with the click of a button.

The UI is definitely overwhelming, I felt like I was playing where’s Waldo when doing the tutorial. I’d recommend taking some time to think of a good UI layout and redesigning all of the buttons as well.

Also I’d recommend replacing the AI generated thumbnails.

Thanks, the AI generated thumbnails are just placeholders for now.

Do you like the style of the custom made one or should it be a cartoon drawing like other sims?

What I mean by a “objective that shows you how to play the game” is to force the player to do the most basic mechanics of the game and limit the interaction they can do with other mechanics so they have a better idea of how to play the game

There is not any specific UI on the screen thats overwhelming it’s more like the UI all together makes the screen really overwhelming

Okay so i tested out the game and i would like to share my opinion on it…

My biggest problem isn’t the gui tbh but the fact that it feels like a cookie clicker simulator, and the problem that i have with it is that it doesn’t feel like you acomplished a goal in your life, you upgrade your city but i dont feel any acomplishment on doing so. It is called “City Business” Simulator but i cant see anything other then what the text tells you, that is related to a City or “City business”.

Also it feels too easy, and im not saying to make it harder but all i did is spammed cick on the upgrades until i got enough population to get to the next area, maybe start off slow like your city isn’t very popular and it starts out like a simple city but after you start upgrading it, it starts to get more population, not just starting out and gaining 250K population in like 3 minutes…

My next point is that it feels more like a Pet simulator clone, and what would improve the game is uniqueness, it should be more original then some Clicking simulator or Pet simulator clones. All you do is collect coins and upgrade and upgrade until you reach the next area and do it again.

So in conclusion, the problems i have is:

  • No feeling of acomplishment
  • Too easy and fast paced
  • The gameplay is less related to the title itself City Business Simulator
  • Lack of originality

Thank you for sharing your opinion,

Somethings I’d like to comment though. The game starts out quickly to get the new player feel like he’s accomplishing something, but once you start upgrading it really starts to slow down (we also have offline income to help you out with this).

What do you mean the gameplay was not related to the title? Did you not figure out the Business and market share mechanic of the game? For example, if you owned 1% of the market share, you would gain that amount of the global population as your income.

Although I can see your point about feeling of accomplishment not being really there as it might seem like a average simulator at this point.

Well… I would like to see more gameplay related to the game’s title instead of text you know? Im not hating or disliking it, im saying that maybe you could add more gameplay with the “city business” theme as right now its only collect coin, upgrade. Every game can have potential, and i believe that your game has potential of being popular as long if its entertaining and fits with the main theme of the game. Im not saying its out of theme but maybe you can make it more noticable. Because all i see right now is a game about collecting coins and upgrading.
I hope you can understand that, good luck on your game
