Why is the "Average Session Time" so bad in my game?

So last week my game started picking up some players from the ads i put up for it, but the average session time is very low compared to other games in the same category.

could anyone help me improve the session time as i believe it is whats preventing my game from being recommended to people on their home pages.

btw here is my game.

What does your retention curve look like? I’d imagine players leaving fairly early would have something to do with it. I’d remove the favorite/noti popup at the start and only make those pop up after a couple minutes of playing the game. Personally, when creating a good FTUE, my sole priority is to actually get the player engaged in the game and have an idea of what to do and where to go within 30 seconds of joining.

Changes I’d try:

  1. Maybe try not making it round based? Whenever a round ends, it gives players a natural spot to quit. Initially I wasn’t expecting there to be a round, so when the first round ended and I got sent to the start, I first thought it might be a glitch until I realized this game has rounds.

  2. Your game is punishingly hard on mobile. Maybe try scaling up all the platforms 2x bigger? You might have played the game so much you don’t notice anymore, but I was barely able to jump three platforms without dying.

  3. Allow the player to jump still for a very short time even if they are not technically on a platform anymore. I felt like I missed many jumps where I wasn’t sure if I really missed or if it somehow failed to register.

Also, I somehow managed to somehow accidentally trigger the shop while riding, killing me.

have you set up the onboarding funnel analytics? check when and where they leave the game.

if in doubt about the round based make them easier to leave, use custom events to record how many rounds they played in each session.

thank you all for your suggestions, i will be doing the following:

  1. delaying the time for the favorite and notification popups to appear
  2. making all levels 2x bigger so that its easier for new players
  3. adding a fly mechanic like similar to other “obby but X”
  4. i will setup the onboarding funnel analytics so that i can change other things that might effect the players.

hopefully this will greatly improve the session time!
