Why is there black faces (gradient) on my blender mesh?

Ok so I am a bit new to Blender modelling softwares but I am familiar with it especially the old version, and I use 2.79 version of it. The problem is, in edit mode, why are some faces have a gradient of black even though it is set as normal direction? If there’s anything you can help me with, thanks.

It can be due to there being extra vertices or wrongly done shading. Try removing any extra vertices.

Use the Vertex select tool.
Click a to select all.
Go to the Mesh menu and down to the bottom to clean up. Select Merge by distance. When you do there should be a small popup at the bottom LH side. Click it and change the distance to about .003. This should get rid of overlapping vertices.
Click a to select all.
Mesh menu, Normals, click Smooth vectors, then do the same thing but click Reset Vectors.

When I look at the picture it loks like the Line 3rd down on the center doesn’t match up with the lines on either side (the black faces). That means that you don’t have joined Lines on the vertical edges of those faces.

I prefer to turn off the Viewport Overlays Normals indicators and just use the Face Orientation tool to show different colours for normal orientations.

I cant find the “Merge By Distance” though, i selected clean up which isnt really at the bottom

Hi. Did you also add auto smooth?

Auto smooth is important, it’s in the side menu thing.
It’s in the green triangle section under normals.

I think it’s M or something to merge.
Make sure to select all using A first.

Oh another thing you need to do, sometimes the normals get flipped, it causes the same problem. You need to press Shift N to recalculate normals.
I think you also have to select all by pressing A.

Mesh Menu > Clean up menu > Merge by distance.
When you click that there’s a small popup at the bottom left of the screen.
