Why this build looks bad?



As you can see it just terrible and nothing looks good about it. Although how much I spend tons of time on it or adding details, it just end up being dreadful thing. I tried every building style ( Low poly, realistic, classic…) but I can’t do all of them. Building and modelling is my nightmare and I gain no skill about them in about 20 game projects. So my question is how I can gain skills in modelling and building overall

I wouldn’t say it’s actually that bad, it’s just easy to be self critical. To gain skills there’s YouTube tutorials with tricks etc to make things look better and practice makes perfect!

I think it looks very good.

I’d suggest decreasing the brightness, not too dark that it becomes annoying to move about in.
Maybe change up the colour of some of the walls. So like darker grey rocks in some areas, maybe some areas with a white-ish colour or a brownish tint for chalk and granite, that kind of thing.

Stalagmites to go along with the stalactites. Also, more stalactites, with them being bunched together more.

Like I said though it looks good!

What style are going for? It helps if you’re going for a style, such as classic, detailed, low-poly, mid-poly etc…

I think it going to be classic ( The style with roblox parts ) Idk much about styles but I think it’s classic

That’s okay if you don’t know.
Classic is usually like studs and small blocks combined together to complete a larger model. Take the Classic house for example, a lot of small blocks to create the house.

However if you look at games like Brookhaven, which is largely built upon simple shapes, that’s a more modern simple design.

By the looks of it, I think you’re creating more of a modern simple. Something you might see in Speed Run 4.

I think the 2nd image you shared was a lot more detailed, now I look at it, i’d say it is classic. You’ve done a really good job at building this.

Additionally, the wall torches are really good as well, did you make them or did you take them from somewhere?

Yeah definetly What I’m trying to do.

The wall torches are from toolbox, sadly I dont make them but I think they fitting the environment

They are. I made some wall torches, only a bit ago for a 2-hour build of mine, it’s really basic but I just thought it might give the game some character.

Try using future technology in lighting properties, And in lights add shadows, hope this helps.

it looks as if everything is the same material, including the vines and water. which is reasonable, but i think you should change the material of some rocks to make it pop from the rest of its surroundings. i also think its lacking some detail. you should add more detail to the rocks. (more layers, smaller rocks in between, etc.)

other than that, it looks great! keep up the good work :+1:

This build doesn’t look bad at all, depending on the theme/style of the game, it could be considered great. It’s basic and blocky, but some great games are like that. Nice job on it!

It honestly looks pretty good. I wouldn’t beat yourself up for it though. If you think it looks too simple I recommend using references. The cave is also probably too light.(I’m guessing it’s a cave because of the stalactite)
