Greetings! So I am working on a very huge update to Bloxy Kart, and I use a TON of custom textures, which will obviously crash the game on slow devices. By default, textures and shadows are on, but they can turn them off whenever, and it will save.
I am wondering if I should reverse this setting, by having textures turned off by default, since on my dummy Android Tablets, the game is perfectly fine with textures off.
Children want quantity more over quality is what I hear a lot. I will still texture every single map in Bloxy Kart, it is just the people with good computers can turn on textures.
What do you think? I do not want to scrap a ton of maps and remake them due to it “lagging”
It sounds like you intend to turn textures off, by default and across all devices - I would just temporarily turn the setting off for players detected on mobile devices.
But my iPhone and iPad are beasts. Why would I need to turn off graphics for powerful devices? I mean, my iPhone 7 (a 5 year old phone), runs perfectly fine. Im talking about Android and potato PC’s. If I could detect specifications, I would definitely do that instead of considering to turn textures off for everyone.
You’re asking if textures in your game should be off by default so that lower-end devices can run the game. By your own reasoning, you can just turn them back on if you’re on a stable mobile device.
It is already difficult to distinguish mobile players from PC players, it is even harder to distinguish between device specs.
