I would like to recreate this wave system from this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUyt87MGwfY I know that the people from the video used Roblox’s new editable meshes however I have no idea how editable meshes work and I suck at maths and I know this will probably require lots of maths knowledge.
I have no idea how on earth I would recreate this. I have tried myself however I can only make the gerstner waves and they just go up and down, not breaking like how it does in the video.
I have tried Roblox’s AI Assistant but no luck and I have tried searching around on YouTube and Devforum and looked on Roblox’s Help Page and still no luck unfortunately.
JONSWAP Ocean | Liquid - Resources / Community Resources - Developer Forum | Roblox
look at some of these resources analyze what other people do in their code, or just use whatever cool resource they shared with everyone
it is alot of math and quite complex i must say

Thanks for the resource! However thats the gerstner waves that just goes up and down and I have tried many times to turn that into surfable waves and it just doesnt work
what do you consider a surfing, big waves? this resource splits verticies handling by actors you may just input some big number

By a surfing wave I mean a wave big enough to cover the normal character that barrels/curls over the player, if I just increase the numbers to bigger number the waves just get big that go up and down. Im trying to achieve a wave that barrels like in this photo
ur gonna have to add extra verticies for that bending the wave at those point to a barell like movement and looking, then as the wave will go down just merge the verticies from top to bottom smoothly, tho you sure will have to learn one or two things about editable meshes

Thanks, I will try and learn a thing or two about editable meshes now and I’ll get back to you and let you know if it worked!

Unfortunately, I’ve tried everything and i cant seem to get it working…
Its not Gerstner waves! Infact its JONSWAP based x, y, and z displacement
It would be extremely complicated to create naturally formed waves like that using real sampling, however with a lot of math you can actually simulate this kind of disturbance & displacement! Honestly, I don’t know of any resources to start you on with that so I apologize. However if you do want to make this kind of system its totally possible. Best of luck!!

Thanks so much! Im slowly getting closer to accomplishing this system every day
