Working on music for a friend's game, what do you think?

Looking for some feedback on a track that I’m making. I recently started making my own compositions earlier this week and I got a lot of new equipment, like an audio interface, guitar, midi keyboard and launchpad, and much more.

This is what I produced in about 40 minutes. It’s supposed to be music for an RPG, and for an inn or shop. Please let me know what you think about it!

I love it! It’s very well done. It’s soothing and you can relax listening to it. Definitely something that you can hear in an RPG.

I don’t really know what to say in terms of criticism, but in my own opinion, it’s perfect! Well done :+1:

I can hear the basic chords from this one, it has the simplicity but could possibly be improved by other chords. Diatonic chords, for instance.

Oh, maybe it’s missing a limiter to the master?

Not sure what you mean by basic chords, I’m not really well-versed in piano and music theory, but I’m pretty sure that the chords are all diatonic because I didn’t use any sharp notes, like C# or B flat. If you mean that I should use sharp or flat notes, it would definitely be more colorful, but I understand what you’re trying to say

The reason I didn’t use a limiter is because there is not enough gain from the track, and essentially, you would have to use a limiter if the master is exceeding levels.

The sound is definitely too quiet and could use a compressor or something to raise it a little. A limiter is technically a compressor after all. If I compared it to some other sounds that I have made earlier.

I disagree, you don’t need fancy chords to make a good composition, if this is what you can produce in your first week then it’s very impressive well done. The piece is varied and not particularly repetitive which is great! A lot of beginners find it hard to avoid repetition.

I do suggest watching music production YouTube channels as you’ll often pick up stuff to do with your DAW and other stuff like that.

One thing you might want to thing about is instrumentation and timbre, right now your choice of instrumentation isn’t too varied and doesn’t particularly change throughout the track, perhaps some long strings that play the chords could be added to one of the sections?

It has a real chill vibe to it B). I think it would be nice if the strings had a bit of reverb though.
