Worth Continuing Development

I have a game that I’ve been working on for a while.
I don’t really have the Robux or social means to advertise it.

Seems like a flop

Should I continue development, and if I should, what should I change?

Ok, want to let you know this is advice based on how it would compare with semi-popular games. Front page games would be a bit too strict.

First Impressions

When I joined, I was greeted with an incredibly ugly end screen. There was constant buzzing sounds that slightly hurt my ears, and the tutorial disappeared. I went into the game without knowing what I was doing, and was feeling not-so-good about it.

Design

Overall, design was poor. Does not appeal to me or others at all.

Level Design

Rating: Poor
The levels were VERY bland, ugly, too bright, and either too easy or just plain weird. Spawns don’t save, not sure if that’s supposed to happen or not.

UI Design

Rating: Very Poor
The UI was outrageously terrible. It’s sized badly, colors are terrible, placement and timing is bad, and could be 100% redone.

Sound Design

Rating: Neutral
Sounds were bland but not bad. Other than the buzz bug, it was fine. Needs improvement, but definitely not a priority.

Lobby Design

Rating: Poor
Boring, ugly, small, etc. I would redo it.

Gameplay Design

Rating: Very Poor
The gameplay was not fun. This is for a few reasons:

  • Boring
  • Default falling animation
  • Weird default movement for a falling game
  • Nothing felt reactive

Thumbnail/Icon Design

Rating: Good
The thumbnail and icon is good, but misleading. Makes the game appear more colorful.

Lighting Design

Rating: Very Poor
Do something other than what you have. Please.

Verdict

I LOVE the idea, and think it could get somewhere. However, it’s executed terribly, and the game should be completely remade from scratch. You need new everything. Bugs are present, the game isn’t polished, and overall it feels like a giant mess.

Hope you do remake the game though, as I would love to see it executed well. Hope my advice helped, please don’t take any hard feelings from this!

I’m going to be brutally honest, putting myself into the shoes of the average player.

The game idea is really good, but the game itself as it is right now is not enough, since has some big problems:

  • The game is so bright, and from mobile it is really difficult to understand where are you going. I had to lower my phone luminosity to see something
  • The UI has so many contrasting stiles, and it looks so weird
  • I started playing the game without knowing what to do, what I was going to play or what should I have done
  • The lobby is not that attractive, so players won’t have a good first impression and will most likely leave right after joining
  • The description of the game is a big messy and it’s pretty selfish, without letting the player know what really the game is
  • The gravity is so low, resulting annoying and boring
  • The minigames are barely understandable, resulting in dropping into the game without knowing what to do or how to win
  • The checkpoints don’t save, and it’s annoying to restart from beginning, so players will most likely rage quit.
  • The tutorial looks so simple and poorly made, giving me a bad impression about the game and not a sufficient understanding about it.

My final thought is that the game should be remade from scratch, maybe with the help of somebody else (builder/UI designer) and with new minigames, since the current one are too simple/boring/yet seen.

Anyway I like the effort you put into it!
Don’t give it up!
I’m sure it will become an awesome game!

When you say checkpoints don’t save, this happens without you running out of lives right? As in, the checkpoints just don’t always work and you spawn at the wrong checkpoint.

I liked the game a lot and I have to agree with the others on some of the things like the design seems to switch a lot through the game and Guis but really other than that I really liked it and I will be playing this regularly.

I usually don’t respond to Dev Forum topics, but honestly I think you found a really fun and unique game idea. You could really profit off of it if some things were addressed:

  • Bugs are prevalent in-game
  • When joining the game for the first time, despite the tutorial, you don’t really understand what to do. I recommend giving quests to beginners so that they are guided through the slight learning curve
  • UI theme is very inconsistent, I’m getting a half Sci-Fi and half modern vibe. I recommend going with one specific theme to keep the interface less overwhelming

As I said before, if you addressed those issues you could probably get pretty far with the general idea. Just remember that not everyone is familiar with the goal of the game and might not understand how to play at first - no offense, but the tutorial doesn’t help much. Should you continue to develop and work on this game, I wish you good luck!

The game is well made kinda has that tower of hell style! The GUI and the sound effects and music fit pretty well.

My only opinions I have though is that the music and effects are really all over the place once the time runs out all the music was kind of cluttered as what I mean by this is the there are multiple music playing at the same time.

I feel you should either fix that and possibly try making some of the music and effects match with the overall feel of the game as well once the music ends it won’t play another audio for a few seconds or minutes you should try finding one that’s a bit longer or have it repeat over again.

The lobby is small: there’s a bunch of empty areas all around which could be removed or place a few things that’ll improve the game I don’t think upgrades or crates makes sense, however if this is something that users could use to make it down faster than I think it’s useful in a kind of way. The rest of the lobby has both due to its small size and "lack of details”. Try to make your lobby as fun, better, and interactive.

Imo, you should add something in the lobby, maybe something that they can do if they don’t feel like playing that match at the time. There’s usually minigames, small obstacles, etc. Have something similar or different from other games.

  • Music takes about 15 or more seconds to kick in once staying in the lobby. There’s only two problems that could be fixed. The tutorial should be more interactive, as it doesn’t really still what the game is about what you have to do, it’s more focusing on the UI otherwise its not terribly in no kind of way.

I don’t really think this game is ready for full release. It seems like something you’d expect in beta. Overall this project is worth continuing this really has some potential good luck on your project!

I think you should continue development. I really like the concept of the game, there was a couple of things I didn’t like though. I don’t really like the so many neon colors, it was really bright. Also maybe try to fix the lobby a little. Some of the things I do like is how you can make the GUI’s transparent and I like the leaderboards. I like the progress bar on the side, reminds me of TOH. I like how you respawn after 3 deaths, I’m not very good at these kind of games but I think it makes it more challenging which can be fun and also sometimes stressful. Well I don’t have much to say but I hope this helped.

I played your game and the idea is awesome! It’s like a reverse tower of hell. I would keep developing it!! It may seem overwhelming, especially with the comments above, but I think your game has great potential and could be going places! I do agree that the UI could use some work and the neon stuff is too bright. For some reason the big arrow in the middle of the lobby didn’t clue me in to go there and jump. I thought it was just decoration. Maybe nudge the player in the right direction by adding another part to the tutorial? Otherwise, great work!

Are you passionate about the game? Have you lost any inspiration or motivation? If you have, don’t bother because you’re making something you don’t enjoy. The whole part of developing a game is so you can enjoy the process instead of making it for purely others entertainment.

I think you should continue development! It’s a really fun game and all that needs changed is the GUI.

Thanks!

Ready for release though?
As in that, think it could make any profit ATM.

Yeah, I think it could make a decent amount of profit if you maintained the game by sponsoring and / or advertising it.
