Would a Football/Soccer game with a StoryLine Get Players?

I’m still learning scripting but i have a good idea of what i want to create.

The game would have a semi-realistic building style
And the player would be able to go to different countries and play for different clubs.

Along the way they would meet different people and the story would develop as they go along.

I haven’t seen many sports games get much attention so i am apprehensive as to whether i should invest time in this.

Well the player would play games against npc opponents but there would also be an option to play with other players. However, this wouldn’t affect the storyline. And yes it would contain cutscenes and stuff but u would also be able to just chill in the city and complete side quests as well

Well actually the unpopularity of soccer games kinda motivated me more to come up with this idea as most sports games in general are pretty badly made or too simple and if i could break that mold i figured i would be able to have a pretty successful game.

Also it wouldn’t be that difficult to have cutscenes i have seen dozens of games do it before. Also the cutscene wouldnt come in like the middle of a match it would most likely be after or say when the player enters a specific area.

Anything can get players if the game is fun, attracts the audience, and is marketed well.

For that particular game, I’d suggest looking at some games that feature different sports for inspiration. I remember an old game called Mario Power Tour was effectively a tennis game attached to a story and was done pretty well.

Honestly, I’d say you should stick to the basics of creating a genuinely well made soccer game first, and only THEN when you have it finely tuned, and are starting to receive compliments and general appraise about the game, should you consider adding other elements such as a storyline. That way, people will be driven to your game for the storyline, but then stick around for the gameplay.

I think that the only reason that sports games are unpopular is that games of this genre tend to be poorly made or lack content

Yes i will be working on this game almost every day from april till November if everything goes to plan.

Also i will certainly take your advice to heart when making this game. Thank You!!!

Story games don’t really work, action and fun are what players want to reach, especially with sports games. If you’re going to do a storyline, I would recommend making an adventure/action story game, not a sports-story game.

Are there any ways i could give the players of the game that same experience or do you recommend i change the game?

Also many story games have gotten popular for example: camping or piggy

Change the game genre if you really want to do a story game. Story games aren’t really trendy or popular anymore. If you don’t really care about the game genre/topic, don’t make a story game.

camping or piggy are just really trash action adventure games which are made as a magnet for kids to plaay. i saw one person mobile games that are better than that

I still.think if its a well.made game it will get players but ill still take ur advice.
I think ill make like a quarter of the game make a test place for it and see what feedback it gets then ill go from there.

Also I’m guessing u arent a fan of camping and piggy and wile they may not be the most amazingly well made games piggy at least get 100000 players concurrently every day for a reason.

Also there is no problem with your target audience being kids. After all they are the people that play roblox the most.

Yes, it will get players if you remember to put effort into it. Don’t give up in the first 2 weeks of development, and try making a schedule :sun_with_face: Also, remember to advertise the game, even advertising to your friends will be a cheap and effective way to advertise! :slightly_smiling_face: Have a great day!

Thanks for all the encouragement have a great day as well!!
