Would development progress videos help grow a community for my game?

Hello! I am in the process of creating an original survival game and It’s going fantastic!
There really isn’t a problem but I’d like to document my progress, but could I possibly grow a community with videos like that or what type of videos would you suggest making to attract the type of players that would enjoy survival games?

Yes, build as much hype as you can.
Be active on twitter, on youtube, or many discord servers.
You won’t have a community if people don’t know it exists.

Yeah but in reeality thats easier said then done, just because you post say like a devlog it wont pop off instantly, and I’m fullly aware of that

It’s just I guess Im in it for the long haul I supposee, thanks!

Yes, sharing progress videos of your game development on Roblox can help build a community around it. This can help attract interested players and get them involved in game development, creating a sense of involvement and ownership. In addition, these videos can help show the progress of the game and give players an idea of what to expect when the game is completed.

I’m not sure how effective it can be, as someone who used to make Youtube content for a living Youtube is certainly not easy. Especially when it comes to Roblox Dev videos it’s not really comparable to say Unity or any other development logs since the game engine is Roblox. That being said it can be a lot of work and I probably would try to post your development videos on a social media platform and also post about your game there. If you’re going to try to grow your game through Youtube you may have to come up with some clever video ideas and it could take months and potentially years if you’re trying to grow your game through Youtube. If you have any questions about Youtube and how the system works you can ask a former Youtuber like myself!

Yeah alright so this is actually great

So right now I started document development 2 days ago, and I actually got two subscribers I think from my first video im not sure really but these are the videos, yeah I know they dont have really good thumbnails but I could maybe use some advice for that

I actually also created a youtube short for part 2.5 but it stagnennt at a whopping 0 views,

I even reuploaded it hours later and still the same thing, I just dont get it…
Tried tiktok as well and not much engagment on there either, I’m not gonna quit because im not getting engagment on my shorts but I will keep making videos like parts 1 and 2, I suppose

I know the quality of the videos isnt the best but you gotta start from somewhere man, trying my best to make it at least a bit entertaining while also working on the game as well, trying to balance the two isnt too difficult right now but Im enjoying creating the game and the devlogs

There is definitely a lot that you have to learn about producing video content. It would be a lot to explain in just a dev forum reply probably a large essay so I would recommend chatting with me through Roblox or Discord since if you’re going to do well on Youtube there is a lot I would have to explain to you. Some tips right now would be coming up with better names and also learning how to make thumbnails for your games. I also am assuming you don’t have any experience with Video editing. I will also need to see and come up with a content strategy for your channel. I already know how to make Thumbnails and I know how to do video editing so I can teach you how to also to that.

For example, the title “Creating The Inventory!” Part 2.5 is not an intriguing title and it also doesn’t tell the viewer exactly what the game is about.

The title “Creating My Very Own Survival Game | Roblox Studio - Part 2” is also not very intriguing and the thumbnail does not interest the viewer. However, you seem to have already gotten a few views but we can do a lot better. Your audience retention is also probably not high, you can view that in your Youtube analytics. I’m not sure I can link Youtube channels here but I can give you an example of a Youtube Channel I Grew in a month using Youtube shorts some videos got over 50 thousand views.

I sent you a request, It’s DaimyoDev. Here is one screenshot of the channel. I did it for fun it was actually the second experiment. I did another experiment where I grew a Minecraft channel to 1 thousand subscribers and 500k views in one month but I sadly deleted that channel and my old big channel. I would love to show it to you if I could but this should be enough to prove my skill.

That’s what Two Star did with Choo Choo Charles, who turned an average game into an internet search keyword through making devlogs.

Can you add me on discord too and maybe we can start a content creation group chat? I would love some advice on my YouTube channel too and advice on content creation :slightly_smiling_face:

I sent you a friend request. I also looked at your channel so I’ll be able to provide some advice. It seems like you have some idea of how to write titles but you need to entire package in order to succeed.

I would very highly recommend advertising/making the videos on tiktok instead.

In order to keep peoples attention (average attention span for a tt video is like 3 seconds)

  • Make micro cuts
  • Possibly sound effects
  • On screen text for those who watch w/o audio

If you somewhat implement these, and put them on tiktok/youtube shorts I can kind of garuntee that you will get at least some attention. If you have any questions let me know!
