Hey! I’m currently developing a custom chat system and I’m thinking about adding the option to replace hashtags with different characters to make it appear less bland if that makes sense.
A game called Word Bomb actively does this and it’s been up since 2018. I wanted to primarily ask this question to avoid any major chances of moderation.
This would not undo the filter, it’s only replacing the hashtags in the text with things such as “%*&#” or whatever the developer decides to choose.
What do you guys think? Is this a good / bad idea? I’m trying to keep the concept as simple as possible to avoid confusion, but if I was not clear enough let me know!
That’s what I thought, but Roblox’s moderation system has been really wacky lately. I don’t want to take a major risk in doing this. I did it in one of my public games and it got banned for “inappropriate content” like a week later. I still don’t know if this was associated with it.
How I see it, as long as the text first goes through the normal chat filter and you then replace any instances of a hash afterwards, it should be allowed (as in, it’s filtering the chat as it should and you wouldn’t be attempting to un-censor things)
I haven’t seen anything in the rules saying that this wouldn’t be allowed, however the rules are unbelievably vague when it comes to anything further than the basics, so don’t take my word for it.
Still interested in this, I don’t see a problem with it but this resource is going to be public and I don’t want to be responsible for the potential moderation taken on innocent games as a result of this if moderation decides that I did some horrible foul act.
