Would it be wrong to make it so people have to join a Communications server to work as a certain role in my group?

Hello fellow developers! It’s me, Void again. I believe this is the correct section to post this, as I saw someone with a similar formatted question, and I think this is the right place for it. So in my game, I added the ability for workers to go behind a counter, and serve customers. Just like a cafe game, only it’s not a cafe game. It’s your typical vibe game, but with a couple twists here and there.

Here’s my main question…

Would it be wrong for users looking to be a certain role in my group, require to join a communications server like Discord? I’d love to know if this is wrong, or right, because I don’t think the Terms of Service exactly states this, so I’d love to know! Thanks!

UPDATE:
The Terms of Service does say this, but does this also apply to discord? What if I mention they must be over the age of 13?

  • Don’t build a game that encourages (or redirects) users to go off Roblox .

(Please tell me what the right category for this is, if I’m wrong.)

Hey!

Creating a game that redirects to another service such as discord isn’t allowed but encouraging users to join the discord in your group description and creating a channel for staff or creating team chat in game so staff can interact with each other

I’d recommend going with the party chat in game for staff members if that works with your ideas as most staff members are not allowed or of age to use social media such as Discord

Oh thank you for the response! So, adding a sign that tells users If they wish to work as an employee, they must join the discord on a game is not allowed?

You could use the trusted game links

You would probably have to do a work around such as “press the twitter icon and click the link” to join discord as twitter is a trusted link on your game page.

(So add the Discord link to your Twitter bio and then use the link buttons to direct to twitter which will then direct to discord)

I’m not sure if there is any other workaround to be honest

Oh, so that type of vague message on a sign would work? And isn’t working around an obstacle in the Community Rules, disallowed?

edit Sorry I just want to be very careful with this. I want to make sure I don’t end up doing something wrong.

I’m not entirely sure, I’d just use a team chat function in game to avoid any terms of service violations, sorry that I can’t help anymore

Edit: and pin any game wide announcements on your group page that you may need

Alright, that’s fine! I’ll just promote it on my game page, but not in the actual game. I hope something like “In order to work you must join our communications!” would work just fine.

Yeah it should do hope it works out

You aren’t allowed to mention Discord in game, because users under 13 are not allowed to use it. You can have discord links on the game page, but those are shown only to users above 13. You can add custom titles there, so for the Discord link, you could say “Join here to apply for a job.” I don’t think this would be a big roadblock to hiring people, since I can’t imagine you’d want users under 13 in the first place.

Yes, exactly. I’m going to keep it on the safe side, and not continue with it. I’ll just leave the option on the game page, and group page with social links. If someone over 13 asks me directly, I’ll tell them or they just join themselves. Thanks for the response though!

(also this article Is already solved for me)

Hello,

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with “encouraging” users to join your communications server to allow them to work as a certain role in your group. I think that’s how its supposed to be like. I think you can avoid such issues by simply forcing the users who joined to accept the rules of your communications server such as “You can’t be younger than 13”.

Just gonna say… most people who play roleplay cafe games are kids. Forcing them to be 13+ to do the funn-est (?) part in the game (being the chef) is not gonna work.

Like I had mentioned in my description, this is not a role-play, nor a cafe game. It’s directed to a more older audience, but not a super old audience. A Teen audience. I also know forcing them is not good, and that’s why I was asking if telling them in order to work they would have to be in the communication server for better communication, is allowed. I didn’t plan to say anything that said they were forced to join. Just told them it’s a requirement to work as an employee so I can better manage things. Sorry for the confusion  Also my problems solved so no worries.

Also I see why it sounds like forcing. I wanted it to be a requirement, but I wasn’t forcing them to work.

I’d still say no. Make it a requirement to become a MR+, but definitely not a LR.

That seems a lot more practical. Thanks! I’ll still be sticking to the original solution though. I’ll keep this information for the future.

Generally speaking, forcing people to be in a Discord server is a bad practice considering the age requirement to own a Discord account. (13+)

Your group should be designed for people of all pages to progress regardless of their ability to join a Discord server, and then design some sort of program, perhaps applications or interviews, for higher ranked members.

Limiting your community to a small percent of people is never advised. Best of luck.

As long as you don’t state it, it should be fine. You could have some secret roles and stuff. But mainly I do not recommend it. Roblox-to-Discord is mostly fine, like if you’re doing a verify bot that takes your Roblox Account and verify’s it with a Discord.

Oh I appreciate this but this situation was already solved and I set up a safe way months ago
