Would making an Evil Mickey Mouse Game attract me problems from Disney?

I am making a killer mickey mouse styled game which is half complete, it is kind of similar to piggy, but with some new features, and I have used different names for the mouse and all locations and chapters, even the model is very evil of Mickey, but I am still not sure if Disney would copyright me for this if anyhow the game gets popular, which I aim to make it.

Do you mind showing a picture of the model? If the model is so far from the original Mickey and the names are all different, then it should be fine in case of copyright.

I am making the eyes red.

considering that the eyes are going to be red, maybe change a bit of the torso (or arms since it seems you haven’t made them yet) so that maybe only the face is recognizable. That is what piggy did, where they took the head of Peppa Pig and changed it slightly. However, the rest of the body of Piggy is so different from the cartoon character that there can’t really have a strong basis for a lawsuit.

Here is what I learned from my share of being part of the Disney community on Roblox. If your game has any names, or exact looks to content that already exist (which in this case is Disney), and you are profiting off of it, it could lead to some legal trouble in the future depending how much you make or how big this possibly gets. I would personally move towards of a more, character that doesn’t really assemble Mickey Mouse directly, but you are still able to do a mouse I believe, just not specifically seen / could be interpreted at first glance as Mickey Mouse.

Would changing the torso in this case work? but the head the same with red eyes.

I believe changing the torso will be fine, along with those changes to the head. You just don’t want a player to look at the model and immediately think “Oh hey that looks exactly like Mickey Mouse”. You can have different features to your character / change the aesthetics, but it shouldn’t be exact to the real life Mickey Mouse.

Basically I will just be making the torso and this head and the rest would be the R15, the slim 2.0 package I believe, so I can easily animate it, killing the player.

There are possibilities and it depends on the items/builds you use too.

Considering the copyright term extension act is literally nicknamed the “Mickey mouse protection act” because Disney refuse to allow it into public domain. I’d say yes, it would probably result in a very quick DMCA.

If you have to ask, the answer is probably yes. The speed and veracity of the trouble you are about to invite to yourself will depend on the company and how active their team of lawyers are. Good luck.

Mickey Mouse enters Public Domain on January 1, 2024. (Considering Disney doesn’t try to lobby for another protection act)

That’s not true; if you do a cursory google search on a whim, that’s all you’ll find. The only thing entering the public domain is Disney’s first animation, Steamboat Willie, which features Mickey Mouse’s original design. Disney still owns all trademarks regarding later iterations of Mickey Mouse, of which there are several, including the version that exists today.

Yes. The 1928 design will be apart of public domain.

It isn’t exactly copyright as it is a different idea, but how would you like it if somebody took your character you works on then made a scary version that decreased the reputation? I would recommend not doing this, I don’t really support games similar to piggy because I don’t feel piggy is all that unique as it it, that is just my opinion though.

no the skin is a copy right am not talking about the name are that thing talking about the skin

I still think using the name and/or skin of them is disrespectful, it probobly isn’t against the roblox tos though.
