I was just thinking on something to make and I got a great idea, a horror game!! (NOT like those camping games like Mansion or Airplane, an actual realistic one which locks you in first person)
The problem is, I don’t think it would get a lot of people playing it for three reasons.
Not sure if children would play the game, as I am planning to make it really scary.
I have never seen a horror game on the front page.
I don’t have the money to advertise or sponsor to get the game known (Not really important, though.)
So what do you guys think? Is it really worth wasting my time to make a horror game?
Any feedback would be appreciated!

It depends, if you just want to create a unique game for a small audience, you can go right ahead and create this. If the goal of this game is profits, this is not a good idea. Most Roblox players are under 12 and won’t play a game that is very scary. If this game is multiplayer, then some kids might play it because of having others in it. If it is a singleplayer game, there would be even fewer players. Even if you have a great idea, it might not be what Roblox’s playerbase is after.
Look at previous horror games on this platform for inspiration I.e this. There’s an audience for this genre it just wouldn’t be as profitable in comparison to a game directed at the platform’s targeted demographic.
Horror has always been a niche genre, even among adults. If your aim is to make a game with the potential to be popular, choosing horror is generally shooting yourself in the foot. That being said, stuff like Five Nights at Freddy’s proves every rule has its exceptions, so it’s up to you whether or not you’d rather play it safe with a different genre.
I don’t really have an opinion on that, but as you said about the’yre never being a horror game on the front page sort of gives you foreshadowing.
The majority of games on the front page are usually played by children (Adopt me wouldn’t be as popular if it wasn’t for kids) and horror is usually something kids dont want to play.
As you also said, children probably wont play the game as they’ll get scared and possibly dislike the game. Hurting the reputation of it.
I mean, take SCP’s for example. While it is a great catergory and it highly underrated in my opinion, it’s usually catered to an older, more scare-tolerant audience, not children.
So, if I could give you an opinion on it, I would say that you can go for it, have fun with it. But don’t expect it to become an ABSOLUTE MASSIVE hit.
I feel like making the scariest horror game is not a good option.
It is better to make a little scary game with an aim. You can get an inspiration from some games which could seem scary. ( There are some on the front page as well. )
When scrolling on the popular section of Robloxs’ game page I have noticed a particular horrorish genre being very popular, that being the game like murder mystery and escape the facility, or game like piggy. So yes I’d say quite a few Roblox users are still interested in the horror genre.
