Recently, I had the idea of remodelling old games (i.e Doomspire Bricks Battle, Sword Fights on The Heights IV) as maps for my own game. But then it bugged me, would this be allowed? Would I have to credit the original owners? Or would Roblox moderate my game on the spot for copying. Any help would be appreciated
I’m not sure it would be allowed, but you’d need to add some sort of credits or something, you could add something different towards it but you’d still have to,
But that’s just a theory, a dev theory.
I mean there are like 50 copies of DBB on Roblox (and if i’m honest, really not sure who the original creator is) that haven’t been moderated, but what about Shedletsky’s SFTH4? I mean the maps are gonna be heavily simplified - frankly, as much as I try, I don’t think I can fit the entire SFTH4 into a 300x300 square
As they’re classic games I believe Roblox wouldn’t really care as it’s not like they haven’t been used in thousands of games, for example: Rope people simulator, Mortem metallum, they both use crossroads.
So I’m sure you can.
Just as a reminder, regardless of how old the game is, as long as the original creator has the copyright, you can’t copy it. I saw you marked @B0d’s reply as a solution, but I really would recommend against assuming that you can take the idea simply because it is old. Sorry to say, but in my opinion, that is irresponsible advice.
I mean I already got a DMCA claim against my account (thanks nintendo), thats why I was being cautious and asking here first.
My main reason why I’m slightly leaning “it’ll be allowed”, is because games like duck 🦆⚔️ fight - Roblox use SFTH4’s map entirely with (I think) crediting Shedletsky, and plus theres like millions apon millions of clones of DBB, so much I don’t think anyone knows the original owner anymore, all I remember is it starting up in the R6 only days
