Heya! I’m currently working on a pixel art survival game, which I am really excited about, but I am also very paranoid that I am wasting my time, because of the though that I only like this idea because it’s my project, and not because it is actually good.
I’ve written a mediocre game design document for it, both to publish it to get some criticism on the game, and to have something to look back on, so that I don’t stray too far from the original idea. Here’s the document: Note: I’m not good at writing, so some criticism on the document itself would be nice as well!
I may have accidentally voted the wrong one. I think your game idea is awesome but if I was told to play the game “PixelArt Survival” without any explanation I wouldn’t be as intrigued as being told to play “Jailbreak”.
The overall theme of the game is great but will need a tutorial for the younger audiences.
Ah, my bad, I should have explained that that is not the game name I have not decided on one yet, it might be something like Pixel Planet, but that’s only an option.
The overall idea of the game sounds very generic - I’m assuming you are still figuring out the details BUT if done right the I’m sure it will be good. Maybe ask again once your game is more fleshed out and not just a basic set of premises?
I think for the answer of will I play goes down to the finished product but I would be interested in at least giving it a go.
Also, developing a game is never a waste of time - regardless of if people enjoy it/play it. It comes down to if you personally enjoyed the creation and are proud of the final result rather than if you made a popular game or made money from it. Even if the game flops, you at least will have gained valuable skills which will become useful in future projects and as long as you are proud then it really isn’t a waste.
