Xbox Still Uses Outdated Ambient Occlusion

Client Version: 1.602.625.0
Platform: Xbox
Frequency: Always

Description: After playing Pc and Playstation versions of Roblox, I Have noticed the versions have better looking ambient occlusion. That’s because the Xbox version still uses SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) compared to the new method used HBAO (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion). I wanted to report this so the clients are consistent and use the same rendering features.

Expected Result: The Ambient Occlusion should use HBAO (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion) like Playstation and Pc.

Actual Result: The Ambient Occlusion uses SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) the old outdated method.

Reproduction Steps: Enter any Roblox game using max graphics.

Evidence: Xbox Version

Any updates on this, the issue is still present in version 1.620

@Ro_JJam could you look at this or forward it?

It might be more engine or graphics involved, not sure.

@Reditect I see a few months ago someone commented on the ticket that this was by design. It doesn’t seem like they’re working on it, so this should be reposted as a feature request

I wish if they had wrote a comment about that here instead of letting us without updates clueless for months like that. It only takes like 1 minute or something at most.

This topic is from 88 days ago and I probably know as to why

Two reasons:

  • It’s either they use a outdated engine or outdated version for Xbox One
  • Hardware limitations, because Xbox One was not designed to have ambient occlusion because of hardware resources.
