Okay, I didn’t know where I should post this topic so if it’s in the wrong category I’m sorry.
So, to the bug.
Every time I have the Roblox client open, any YouTube or Netflix streams in the background either experience intense lag, or crash after a few seconds. This is not a network issue, as my internet speed should be able to handle it [60 down, 60 up]. And regardless of what is playing in the background, the Roblox Client itself never seems to lag at all.
Here is a hastily recorded example:
[Best examples are after halfway through the video].
This happens to me every time I have the Roblox Client open, or Open the Roblox Client while I have YouTube or Netflix running in the background. I’m not sure if other streaming services are affected, as these are the main two I use. Normal web trafic does not seem to be affected at all.
I have checked, and it seems that this happens to a pretty random selection of people.
I am using a Razer Blade Pro Laptop - Intel i7 6700, NVidia GTX 1080, 32GB Ram - and I can also reproduce this on my old desktop - Intel i7 6700K, NVidia GTX 970, 16GB Ram. I have been experiencing this issue for several months now, I just hadn’t confirmed it with anyone else and figured it was some sort of local misconfiguration. I don’t know what could be causing this issue, but it’s quite annoying when I want to listen to music, or a show in the background and it crashes every time.
Can anyone else confirm that this is happening to them as well?
Thanks!
Dev.
I believe this isn’t the type of issue you’d get Roblox to fix; you should probably move this to #lounge:off-topic.
While this involves Roblox, it’s not necessarily an issue with the client, and is unrelated to it anyway (as like you said, Roblox runs fine while this happens). There’d really be no reason to fix it on their end.
I’m unsure of why this would be happening, and I’m not exactly an authority in this area, but it seems it’s not really Roblox’s fault, due to me and that other guy in that discord screenshot not having the problem. The issue happens when you focus the Roblox client, and since the videos are (primarily) visual, you could probably narrow it down to something to do with rendering. And often when you get to there, problems are more located on your PC’s end.
I can’t reproduce the issue (Windows 10), although I’ll try it out on my Windows 7 PC in a couple of days.
Additional debugging questions: Does this happen with studio? In a play solo test on the same graphic settings?
There are no issues with studio at all. And as for rendering issues, I’m checking my cards performance and they are being minimally taxed. And if Roblox is not focused but visible they both run fine with no lag. I also don’t experience this with other graphics intensive games like subnautica, so I’m still not quite sure what the problem is…
Oh now that’s interesting. I didn’t consider it might have to do with the browser… I wonder if for some reason they are trying to call the same resource somewhere…
It’s probably a CPU problem. I was rendering a video in DaVinci Resolve with my i5 6400 at full tilt and my chrome YouTube tab is being similarly affected. Chrome doesn’t look like it wants to eat any CPU usage though.
As for trying to access the same resource, I doubt it. Both chrome and Roblox are installed on my SSD with nothing near full utilization. There’s no bottleneck there.
