[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

I love my fellow developers it’s nice to see this go down, from the awesome developer community on Roblox! They really need to understand what they are doing, they are ruining millions of games on Roblox with this change alone. I remember when we had something like this before with Experimental games on Roblox, but at least they understood our suggestions and forced the change with a good outcome to make sure the older games work out!

Uploading Id is not easy to do. Most people don’t want to anyway.

Look on the bright side, if Experimental Games got a good ending. Maybe this update could do the same!

Also mindblowing that devs think they can upload copyrighted music that they have no right to upload and ruin the audio library for everyone else who is using it legit.

What would you prefer? - Last is a bit long.
  • Free Audios limited to only 10-100(If able to verify and trust Roblox’s security to not be breached) and 100k new created Audios uploaded by Roblox that 99% likely to not fit to your project.
  • Unlimited number of uploads costing 20-200 and free access to using immersive music and quality sound effects uploaded by users. - Disclaimer, I’m not implying high quality audios will be gone forever, just that the ones that aren’t going to be reuploaded will be forever gone until uploaded by another.
  • Optional to make audios private and instead of making all audios over 6 seconds inevitably private, make a fee to keep audios playable by the public and maybe perhaps a “Purchase to Use”, to keep your audios free for everyone you have to pay a certain fee every month, otherwise it will be taken to private. This means you can have the option to pay a fee every month to keep audios free for use to everyone, but also option to sell usage of your audios(Idk how this one will be done as it will conflict with audios that previously were free, but that can also be said the same about gamepasses and etc.) - Anyway, this is an small solution to a big issue, now to the ridding of current bypassed audios, as you need to pay to keep an audio free for use, from March 22, people will have a month whether to decide to keep their free audios open or not. The cost starts from 10/month and goes up 10 for every minute in the audio. Cheap right? 10 Months would be 100 for every audio if under a minute. I’m aware this is expensive for many, even for me when adding up. But look at the market potential. Oh right and I forgot to mention, when you want to sell an audio, it has to be reviewed by a Roblox Staff. - Another thing, if you sold an Audio to people and make it private, only those who bought the Audio will be able to use it until it is otherwise free use again.

So having to replace 100 audios but only having 10 uploads a month is a good update?
Just because it doesn’t affect you much doesn’t mean it’s a good update. I have multiple sound effects that are 7 seconds long and will now have to be replaced. And I only have 2 weeks and 10 audio uploads to do it with.

I’m sorry, but even as a billion dollar company, I would not want to pay that kind of money to anyone.
Especially to every plaintiff involved in the case.

The goal of a company to maximize profits and to minimize losses.
Roblox thought that this update would minimize their losses.

Is the update a good one? Hell no!
Is doing something better than paying no less than $200M to each plaintiff involved? Yes!

Now, Roblox could have tried fighting the case, but, for some reason, Roblox decided not to.

I hope your new game, Project Hunter has every single audio created by you and not taken from any form of anime.

I hope me doing some Dragon Ball reference blasting you isn’t 6 seconds longer just like in the anime. :wink:

Currenly the only way i know of checking audios is to head to studio, then add a sound then change the soundid to the one you want. Next head to plugins and then the sound discovery plugin that was added in this update.

Better to take the loss than push this crap. It’s insane. It’s like they barely tried to fight the case and barely tried to make the changes bearable to devs.

I don’t want it. I think its a bad plan. Are you confused?

think of all the open sources!

Think of those who don’t have access to audio programs like some others do.

aight well I’m not gonna be able to make games anymore
I never get sfx right the first time and only having 10 uploads a month means I’m screwed (especially cause I work on multiple projects at once)
So godot and unreal are looking real hot now ngl.

At least we still have access to sites like bloxids.com that you can search up audio IDs on, these sites probably won’t be going away any time soon, and they have already cached almost all the public audio catalog.

This is basicly what roblox is writing inside there code to block all the songs from the market place that are longer then 6 seconds

local VisibleonMarketPlace = true
local Privated = false
local Songs = game:GetService("SoundService")
if Songs <=6 then
	Privated = false
	VisibleonMarketPlace = true
else
	if Songs > 6 then
		Privated = true
		VisibleonMarketPlace = false
	end
end

Wow, this just shows that roblox is just watching us complain about this update, and then they just ignore it.
