[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

I agree with you here.
Those who cannot learn from history shall be doomed to repeat it. And it’s repeating itself now with this issue…

I’ve literally just ended up making a new game from scratch because this update is such a bad idea, my old game had over 30 audios that we’re going to privated, and I can only upload 10 audio’s this month, and even if I could upload those 30+ audios, there is no way, I’m spending that long reuploading audios over some stupid update.

Roblox just listen to your community once, no-one wants this, and don’t pick such a stupid way to avoid legal problems

how is it copyright (especially in my case because its rain sounds.) Also, I never put it on sale, this is just a reupload of audio from a rain plugin that I replaced so that users would not notice a difference in sound.

i really doubt roblox will actually listen lol. Im pretty sure they understand the big upcoming issues with this update and i really really doubt they will actually do anything to solve this issue

He just said his account was from less than a year ago, and he has the 2k audio limit. Mine is from 2018 I think, and I can only upload 10. May create a new alt to test if it is for new accounts for whatever reason.

I see Roblox dying out with this stupid update they have decided to put in for no reason. there will probably be many developers leaving due to this update including me. What Roblox needs to do is revert this update before it’s too late.

This update is horrible, for my game we have over 1,500 audios that aren’t available for usage anymore, we will never, and I mean never be able to upload that many audios in a reasonable time. I am hopeful that ROBLOX doesn’t disregard their community this time and proceeds to reroll this update.

I couldn’t agree with you more, the chances of Roblox doing anything are so so slim, even if they did I doubt it would be much better, and they probably do see the big issues it’s gonna bring, but oh well, just a waiting game to see what they’re gonna do now.

This seems to be a big problem for my game. My game mainly relies on a music request system, this is a big problem for Club/Vibe style games. Now I just hope that roblox understands the situation and analyzes it a little more.

I would like to point out that Roblox has reasons for what they did. Your main point here seems to be that big corporations do these things for absolutely no reason and have to listen to us about it, when in reality there’s many professionals there who have made these decisions and believe them to be the right ones.

TL;DR: Roblox had a reason for doing this.

Also, I’m not saying I agree or disagree with Roblox’s actions. I am staying neutral until I have enough information to form an opinion.

I belive this is a excellent update to some degree! I like that they will start to make more offical audio for us to use and the fee no longer exists which will hopefully allow more people to make audio for games. But also I dislike we no longer have the opportunity to use other peoples audio freely anymore which really is sad and detrimental to the community.

This is the worst update I’ve seen.

Here is my opinions about this update.

Pros:

I think that having audio uploads free is a great idea. This helps out small developers who wanted to upload audios but couldn’t because of the price.

I think that having over 100,000 new professionally-produced SFX from top audio is a great idea because the audio by Roblox isn’t really that popular.

Cons:

Only 10 Audio Uploads a MONTH for non ID verified users? I think that’s a little ridiculous. I think this is a bad idea because some developers on Roblox aren’t ID Verified and they can only upload 10 audio files a month. I can see like a 10 audio files per week. Or maybe 75 audio files per month is a better number, but why 10?

I don’t think this is a good idea because some games have hundreds of audio files and having to go through them and removing the ones that are not approved will take forever.

Audio longer than 6 seconds will be set to private? That’s a little ridiculous. I understand that most SFX is under 6 seconds, but the music in games will be removed. There could’ve been another way to do this. Almost all games will be silent.

As stated by @Lumanyii, that isn’t enough time! Some games have over hundreds of audio files and going through each one to remove ones that aren’t approved, that’s ridiculous.

The ability to make audios PUBLIC audios has been TEMPORARILY disabled? I feel like we should be able to make our audios that we want users to be able to use public. You should give us a time frame for when we can set audios to public.

My overall thoughs

This update is terrible. This could’ve been executed better.

Stop acting like Roblox couldn’t have invested in better auto-copyright infringment detection systems(Like Youtube’s ContentID). It’s entirely Roblox’s fault for taking the nuclear option.

Just thought of something.
If you can, create a zip archive of your temporary assets folder that the client downloads (“C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\Roblox\http”). This may allow for someone to use that data later.

Yes, but did they HAVE to make every single audio under 6 seconds private?

there could have been a better way to handle it then ruining tons of games.

I just read an article about the record labels dropping their law suit against Roblox, and perhaps this drastic change was part of that settlement.

Perhaps this change will open the door to mainstream music becoming a part of Roblox legally and this is just the ‘growing pains’ portion of that transition.

perhaps…

This feels like a rushed and incomplete response to fix the problem, It’s rather drastic to basically remove every single audio to restart as a clean slate on moderation.

You can disagree with me, but I’m just stating my opinion. They could’ve executed this better. I am not hating on roblox, but it is their fault for doing the audio this way.

Hopefully temporarily until the owner of the audio can configure the privacy settings (and by doing so assume responsibility for said audio).

This won’t help the countless orphaned audios that were used in countless quantity of games, most of which aren’t going to be updated. :frowning:
