[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

You are just focusing on the part of the free sound. Please take a look at the rest of the post before ranting about how “good” the update is. I can’t believe some random Roblox staff with a bootleg version of VSauce as an avatar can determine the direction of the entire corporation.

You are just being unprofessional here,Free sounds are cool but,Privating audios? Like its just a stupid idea.

Roblox pulling a 1989 move and nothing happened at roblox headquarters in 1989

Instantly calling this a good update just because one can upload for free strikes me as a little selfish. Many developers are quitting the platform since they cannot put the sounds they wish to.
If a developer wants, they can work to earn said robux and upload audios. Nobody was restricted in this regard in the first place. It is like working at a job. You gotta work to earn and be able to live.

True, but it can work for some people. Not to mentions the variety of discord servers well equipped with staff that will try to crack down scams and other bad apples. It is really up to heart’s desire from my POV.

Nevertheless, I apologise if I came off as rude.

hi so uh
what games do you like?
do you like it because of sound?
too bad! the sound is gone! oh no how will we cope!

yea no, not that great.

especially the rhythm games in roblox like robeats those things will probably bite the dust. they might “unbite” it but not before a few months of keeping it in and pain.

games, especially the classics that are pretty much no longer worked on? well now you get to experience what it’s like to be deaf, introducing theㅤㅤㅤㅤ!
ones with voice acting? (insert cool cutscene) (guy comes in) (speaks in “air”) “so (un)cool cutscene”

TL;DR most games you love will be at least partially broken. that would not be nice.

lets say your friend comes in and goes “hey come help me develop pls”. you wanna use the sound?
take the mp4 file you uploaded, give it to your friend through some other chat, let him upload, pray to every god and devil that roblox mod team doesn’t have a bad day or aren’t drowsy then you can safely use it. Look how annoying that is!

also you wanna upload a song but reached the limit?
good! wait 30 agonizing days doing anything BUT develop. nothing can be done to shorten the cooldown.

Yes I have this game without sound ok ?
Now I think this update is bad Its super bad sry for saying its good ok this update sucks ?
I feel now how pro devs feel for losing their games

I forgot about this game I make it with my other account and it died

Can’t understand how the gzip compression within the files works, but…

Any file containing “Content-Type: audio” is an audio file.

If you navigate to the folder in a linux shell (e.g. Windows Subsystem for Linux) you can grep through the files, and it will slowly return a list of files which contain audios.

 grep -rl "audio/mpeg"

Then you can simply navigate to the link on the first line of the file, and download the audio.

Might be the case the update on 22nd will brick these URLs from public download, and doesn’t solve the problem of being able to play audios to people within games.

What?

In the original post, it says that the ability to set audio to public will be temporarily paused. Which means at some point users will gain the ability to make them public again.

oof sorry about that. if its paired to a group create some alts and make them be able to make group items [by changing the role settings]

Adding onto that, it really gives me a bad feeling that this isn’t going to solve anything either.

If all of this was to effectively wipe 90% of sound effects / music off the library then this would make a lot more sense, but all of what we’ve been told combined with the lack of transparency makes this look like they genuinely thought this was a good idea.

But it isn’t, this is a nuclear approach and not only that but they’re also still retroactively going back and moderating everything as well!

Wouldn’t moderating already existing audio be enough? Why the heck do they gotta make it all private as well and make the audio toolbox effectively useless for practical sound effects?

To them, it’s a clean slate, a do-over, whatever you want to call it. Another chance to redeem themselves in legal moderation.

Obviously this is a lazy and incomplete solution to a problem that’s 100% going to bounce back at them the second they re-enable the ability to make audios public again.

wait what? i am just gonna ask a friend to edit the audios that are more than 6 seconds and then upload them to my group / account (depending what or who made the game). [because they have a X next to it.]

I guess so, I just hope they realize that making everything that currently exists private is a very bad idea.

If they really go through with this change, I’m outta here. I heard Unity treats their users much better and Steam is more supportive than whatever Roblox is doing.

Roblox, please consider working with the community and listening to their criticisms. This update will be catastrophic to the millions of developers on your platform. At least work with them to achieve a common ground.

Hey roblox.
You can remove earrape audios. why not copyrighted audios?
Be better at moderation! Than you won’t get sued
You can ban some people for no reason. Why not remove copyrighted audio?
You have billions of dollars! Just get better moderation.

(Watch me get replies saying : ROBLOX IS DOING THIS UPDATE SO THEY WONT GET SUED AGAIN, Yeah i know. I just want them to get better moderation.)

ROBLOX IS DOING THIS UPDATE SO THEY WONT GET SUED AGAIN

I feel like when people say things like this, they either didn’t read through the full post, or just aren’t devs at all. They’re stuck on the idea of 'FREE AUDIO’S!!!" only that means nothing now since the limit is 10 if you didn’t devex or show ID.

I have no idea if this is talking about other people or only me.
And yes i did read through the full post.

[oh i get it]

true, it’s not because of that, and it can be reverted, because it’s not related to corporate stuff and never was

I was thinking of the same too. I already made a Unity ID. I need more time to think if i should move to unity.
