[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

What I am also concerned about is this new audio library additions that we’re getting.

I really hope that they can implement enough replacement SFX so that we’re not just entirely screwed from this all, and I hope it’s not all just music.

If you were to buy the audio, would you be able to use it or would you have to find some way to prove it? How are we supposed to prove that we even have permission to use the audio? Almost every single game is going to be impacted by this, especially because most audio is over 6 seconds long. So dumb Roblox.

I think that pushing out this update while a long term solution hasn’t been thought out yet is a bit too rash of a move.

Making every audio 6 seconds above private is without a doubt something that is obviously something that people wouldn’t like (Look at these replies lol). The fact that some of the most used sounds are uploaded by users that are inactive and unknown of the fact that their assets have been made private, and even if they wanted to make them public, they are unable to as there isn’t a existing feature to do that as of now (and possibly for a long time).

It is also obvious that it is impossible for the majority of the people to reupload their sounds as they are bound by the monthly limit that has no way to be expanded (Unlike Badges).

Wow, this is bad. Guess we’ll have to rely on Dreamscape 009 for our ambiance needs.

What about anime games like Demon Slayer games that have music? Do we have to email the studio that is responsible for the music for permission to use in our games? Like how are we going to prove that we own the audio that we asked permission for use, an example being Sony Music or something.

But overall, this update was over uh…something.

Don’t rely on those. Some are just bland and generic with no charm or uniqueness.

You can see both sides of the huge discussion caused by this new update.

There are a lot of people that like these new changes. Why? Pretty simple, those new audio privacy regulations at least prevent a bit of asset stealing, it prevents people using others “intellectual property” in form of audio files. Well… it is in fact a very interesting change for game developers.

There is a huge negative side of this whole changes. Previously it already had been a problem with distributing Animations cause those kind of regulations also apply for those.
As i have already mentioned before, it is a very interesting change for game developers themselves. If you look at developers making creations for the toolbox or just free to go things around the Roblox universe.

Those people are not able to create amazing things anymore, they are now missing a very important part of Roblox’s development infrastructure.

Same also counts for people using those assets, they are urged to create their assets 100% by theirselves. For developers who are not members of development teams creating amazing games this changes are horrible.

For sure times go by, things change, things are not like before (i can only refer to @NateO1078 's post a little bit further up)

Roblox really needs to come up with solutions to get external audios in games working again.
Those changes are going to break a lot of games and those 11 Days remaining to get everything working again are just not enough for solo developers. They cannot rebuild their whole infrastructure just by a recent update that was created to protect privacy in the first place.

If you already have noticed i am on the “this update is not ideal” side of this discussion. I was going to reflect both sides and why this update might be good or bad regarding to different kinds of developers.

I feel like Roblox keeps trying to get small developers of the platform and support huge groups or games.

Whoever read this, i thank you for doing so and i hope you are going to have a great rest or your day!

Over 1441 of collected sounds(Over 1 and a half years of time) in a folder and over 20% of them are red, thanks for nothing Roblox.

  • Oh and, about the 10 uploads per month, it’s useless and stupid, some people have enough robux to upload 100 home made audios and can’t verify as they don’t have access to their id or have a genuine fear to risk doxxing themselves. - What if Roblox experienced a data breach and our ids were exposed, then what?
Then I see some people being able to upload 2000 free audios per month? Are you kidding me? Favorism is something, huh.

This update will kill the platform. Can we change the privacy settings again? Can we make audios that are over 6 seconds public?

Uhh, no. Veriff does not store your ID. A AI scans it and immediately deletes it after.

They said it will be disabled untill another long term solution is found.

I agree with a lot of your statements, but 10 audio per month is way too little. Even 100 audio per month isn’t great. Some people have 2000 per month (some without verifying AFAIK) and it would be nice to know why they have 2000. I don’t want to give Roblox my personal information to use more than 10 audios per month in my dang game. Not only that, I can’t even pay Robux after uploading 10 for free (which mind you, they allowed you to do when badges were made free). If they upped the audio count for unverified users who don’t want to send their passports to Roblox, or explained why people have 2000, I wouldn’t be nearly as annoyed.

After the audio is set to private, the ability to make them public will be indefinitely unavailable, which makes things worse.

Im going to be honest, 10 audios per month is a total joke. Im on this account since 2014 and yet they give me 10 audios per month meanwhile they give some 100 or even 2000. That’s just plain favoritism.

Now this is what should have been done, WHY DID ROBLOX NOT JUST GIVE THE ABILITY TO PRIVATISE YOUR AUDIOS INSTEAD OF THIS? - I get they’re trying to get rid of bypassed audios, but new ones will be created and this will just enrage it even more, like I am a little enraged currently. I have been collecting 1441 sounds for a year and a half now and suddenly I get a notice that all my search has been for nothing? I have been grinding to find quality sounds and music to my future projects unlike most games on the damn frontpages that just use lazy and crappy audios because they use what they see as the first result in the develop/audio page.

If Roblox is really going to double-down on a change this huge I’d at least expect they’d give more of a reasonable timeframe to have things changed and that they’d make changes to how the permissions of this is supposed to work.

The fact that it’s intentional that you need to reupload an audio that you’ve uploaded under your own name and use in a group that you also own is absurdly stupid and such an unnecessary time waster. If Roblox is expecting people to use this massive stock library they’re pitching, it’s pretty silly how finding what you actually want is so difficult on top of the fact you can’t even properly sort between viewing sound effects & music.

This part of the update still just feels like something that didn’t need to happen. Roblox’s copyright takedowns have already felt pretty on the nose whether it’s a corporation filing a DMCA request or if it’s automatically flagged new upload or not. I don’t see why nuking the library like this is needed. What’s gonna prevent the exact same thing from happening the moment they allow developers to set audios public again?

Seriously, this update could EASILY avoid major damage to the platform if creators were instead given the option to privatize their existing audio.

I agree the 10 upload limit is terrible. It seems the only people okay with it saying “you should be grateful” are those who don’t have any issues regarding audio or those who have one of the higher limits.

Checking Roblox Studio of one of my games with music I own and made, it seems like it’ll be removed? Is this some sort of bug that could be resolved before the audio is removed from my game as there’s nothing I can do about it?

Not to mention Roblox’s New 100k audios aren’t going to make up for that as I know for a fact that they’re gonna be 99% useless most of the time and just crowd the filter even more with pointless audios, making it harder to find something. 7/8 Of Roblox music or “sound effects”(Which are rarely even made or high quality or diverse.) are just reuploaded to shortened/extended versions or small changes in the rymth/melody or theme. They really expect us to have a expensive high quality audio creation program that actually allows fluid modification of soundwaves.

It’s most likely to prevent overloading the moderation department. Considering it is very easy to get access to 100 uploads by just being ID verified, I don’t see this as a problem.
