That’s one of the only things I look forward to as it should allow us to be more flexible in our choices of content.
Ok, I already knew this… I just wanted to say that it is not the biggest disaster.
And also I don’t think that Roblox will ever add again a feature to make audios public, I mean what’s the point of this update then?
Thats a better option privacy for groups or friends you are devopler or owner of it
what’s the point of even having the toolbox at this point?? three quarters of it will be gone. if owner-locked assets will apply to meshes and decals in the future too, it’ll restrict creators and we’ll see less uniqueness in experiences. im not ready to hear the same 30 audios or see the same 10 decals in every game i play. it’s gonna drive me nuts.
I don’t know what the point of this update is. I feel like they only made audios free to sugarcoat it as a good update that everybody should be happy about, because they knew that people wouldn’t be happy about it.
@tacticallysrupid Exactly. I don’t want to hear “Invasion music” in 3 different rhythms for 2 minutes long. I don’t even like most of the free music that Roblox has released so far.
We got free audio uploads, but at the cost of having to listen to the same music over and over in 3 or 5 different rhythms.
As I saw someone say this before, it seems like the situation in school when someone does a dumb thing and the principal can’t figure out who it is, so they just punish everyone.
Same thing here, took around 12 hours for the audios to get accepted.
I REALLY hope they extend the deadline because this is pretty ridiculous
I do have to give you guys one prompt for this new plugin I really appreciate this because it helps me keep track of any form of Audio in my game and I really thank you guys for this, we’ve needed this plugin sooner makes the work so much easier!
To get 2,000 Audios you need to have a valid DevEx account.
And I also agree that Roblox should increase the limit for non-verified users.
If Roblox continues on this and I end up not being able to make games that are actually of high quality and different from the generic copy pastes on the frontpage(Because I don’t have expensive programs that allows fluid modification of soundwaves to make high quality sound effects and music.), I might stop trying to participate in Roblox creations and just hop on damn Unity/Unreal. And honestly, I don’t think many feel the same as I haven’t met a single person who shares the same amount of must/dedication into variation and quality fitting to theme & story. Majority of people on Roblox are blinded by pay and cheap/easy rewards so their standards start dropping lower.
One thing I dislike is how sudden this is - I know that it had to be done due to legal issues, but can’t there be a better way?
Many of us either got 10 or 2,000 uploads. Whoever got 2000 is practically saved from this (with some minor problems), and then anyone with 10 like me are basically screwed.
Audio moderation nowadays likes to falsely moderate stuff. This could just void any of your audio uploads, and with 10 a month, it may take LITERAL MONTHS AND YEARS to upload all the audio without an ID.
Some people may have had three sounds which are easy to replace, and others may have literal thousands. This is just going to rip so many audios off the toolbox that people uploaded for others to use including themselves.
TL;DR | This update is flawed in its execution. While I understand the legal issues, this will heavily hit Roblox’s toolbox.
Almost 3,000 replies in total (including deleted/hidden ones) and no official response from Roblox yet. This is absolutely ridiculous.
I would not be surprised, and I am not surprised, that top developers are going to/are in the process of quitting development on the Roblox platform because of this update.
Usually, people quit over small updates such as the navigation bar being moved by 1 pixel. However, I can see why and can agree with people quitting Roblox development, or Roblox altogether because of this update.
If this gets pushed, we will all probably only hear stock music in 3 different keys when playing a game.
Why has Roblox been hush-hush about this entire thing? It’s almost like they muted the thread and have had the DevForum closed for the past day.
They can give the audio access to specific experiences. So, if I’m correct, that means they can give it access to the game that they want to play bypassed audio in.
Please, correct my if I’m misunderstanding.
I agree with a lot of points above. The fee audio part of this change as well as the needed ability to have control over the privacy of your assets is to me quite clearly to try to paint this update in a positive light when this sets a pretty worrying precedent about what’s to come. I’m well aware that acting with the intention of preserving old experiences as well has and will always continue to be a limiting factor on the platform to continue advancing, however it appears to me that you’ve now abandoned this ideal altogether which is frankly sad. If this precedent is set then I have no doubt you’ll be moving on to images and mesh’s next which will continue to make massive amounts of games relatively unplayable as the creators don’t bother to or don’t even get on the platform anymore to comply with a change no one wanted in the first place.
It’s undoubtedly absolutely vital that we have control over whether people can use your assets you’ve uploaded or not and it’s not even a big deal what so ever if you simply add that functionality and make it private by default, but to retroactively private all previously uploaded assets the majority of which isn’t even from currently active accounts and paint it as a good thing? Far from a win for any roblox developer out there.
This is a catastrophic, nuclear change.
My game has been canceled because my developers CAN’T recover and get all the asset ids for all of the audio for the game.
Developers I know are scrambling to try and get all their IDs replaced with working ones, And are really struggling.
This has got to be one of the most anxiety-inducing and borderline worst updates possible for Roblox to have announced.
The average game has 250-350 audio assets. With the rate that some developers get (Me included) You won’t even be able to publish all of the audios in a year.
This better not go through.
Making all the audio private will most likely increase the audio upload rate by 1000 times as every single person would upload the same audio themselves in order to use it ingame which is really bad as it would add a ton more network usage to roblox and cost a lot more too.
It would have been better if there was a possibility to make it private so users can decide whether they want other people to use the audio or not, but this is just not going to work out for all users.
- i can upload 100/month
- no, i don’t have any problems with this update
just jumping on the hating roblox’s update bandwagon.
this update sucks
Thats selfishness, alot of people are desperate because this update is gonna kill alot of games and you simply dont care because you can reupload everything?
can’t be bothered to change the music on multiple of my games, guess players will need to play in silence
