Right, and i’m saying all these people claiming they’ll quit will be here in 6 months posting questions on how to get their script to work when it throws errors at them.
This update honestly de motivated me to make updates to my game, and also de motivated me to make new games for my entertainment. I hope ROBLOX re thinks this. If they go along with this pretty everything everyone said here will happen (games going silent, boombox gamepasses being useless etc). This will be the true doomsday of roblox. I really wished roblox actually thinks about what there doing instead of just going along with it. Also i would understand why a few here would like this update tho (privacy and free upload)
If this update is actively making people say they want to quit Roblox, even more so than previous updates, that’s bound to be a really bad sign for the future.
You two don’t seem to fully realize how harmful this update could be for developers if a good chunk of them are threatening to quit and move to other platforms.
I was just saying developers now have the option to control whoever can use there audios now, however this doesnt change the fact that this update is gonna destroy roblox.
I know how bad it is. But I know people will find a way to move forward. Just as Roblox breaks games with this update, they can resolve problems that it creates with later updates. They are not going to throw their platform away.
I feel the pain. I know how much work this is causing.
Its a solvable problem, I believe it will be solved.
People will only hold on for so long, Roblox ain’t giving us too many reasons to keep following them.
With all the restrictions, bad decisions on their end and general appearance that they don’t care about us, it really makes you start to question "why should I even use their services anyways?"
Engines like Unity and Unreal Engine have been proven to be far superior, the only reason people stick to Roblox was BECAUSE of how user friendly the platform was, and now that is being curb stomped as well.
I think if they want to, Roblox would be able to make old games work again.
They could make the client handle missing audio differently?
They could emulate a silent track of the length of the private audio file.(so scripts won’t break) They could retroactively scan old content that was public and ‘re-public’ it at some point when they can develop a mechanism.
There are many ways they can work to resolve issues that arise from this. I don’t think they will just break everything and leave it at that.
You’re right, I found the audio that was used in Party Palace in Natural Disaster Survival, and it appears that it was uploaded by a different person who uploaded it for Stickmasterluke.
While I would agree, Roblox just doesn’t seem to care about smaller developers anymore. With the good updates comes the bad updates, and sometimes it just seems like Roblox is trying to hurt their platform in some way.
The best way any of this could be fixed is if either A. Roblox forfeits the audio update like how they did the materials update and tries to find of a different solution while dodging and weaving lawsuits
Or B. Roblox modifies the update in some way to where it isn’t as crippling as it is in the current state (Removing the monthly audio upload cap, not privating a giant chunk of audios, etc)
This isn’t something the community could just easily fix given the heavy restrictions that were showcased to us; All we can hope is that Roblox actually listens to us rather than leave us in the dark.
Well, I get it. What I meant by that sentence is that Roblox has done worse updates over the years, and people always threatened to quit, but they never did. Other than that, I understand what you wanna say.
We shouldn’t have to put up with this madness. We were all given a two weeks notice to fix our audios, which would probably take way more than that for most developers. On top of that, the sounds they are promising as a replacement are coming AFTER the update, so a we’ll have to spend more time to get our places back to working after the 22nd. Why on earth is Roblox giving us such ridiculous deadlines? It shouldn’t have to be this way, right?
This is stupid, the privacy part is one thing, but why are you setting all existing audios longer than 6 seconds to be private automatically. Most old users aren’t gonna log back on and if they do they probably won’t set their audios to public. Your pretty much taking away are entire audio library. The annoying part is that even though there’s hundreds of other developers saying this exact thing, I know Roblox is still gonna go through with it.
Good points. The short deadline and upload limit is ridiculous for sure. The only thing these devs can do to protect their game is go through their scripts and make sure they don’t break due to missing audio, and try to find substitute audio, even if its just temporary.
I’d rather have a silent game than a broken game.
I’d rather not have any of these issues, but we got em.
It really shouldn’t. I can’t believe all it takes is one lawsuit, and Roblox just loses it. If it gets really bad we still have unity, and itch.io as replacements
