[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

I wonder how developers with more than 10-100 audios in their game are going to upload a ton of audios if there is a limit.

Just realized itā€™s snowing where I live

Iā€™m not verified, people said maybe because of devx, I never have, people say maybe I own premium, I donā€™t. Iā€™m puzzled too, but Iā€™m not complaining (LOL).

Then donā€™t upload to begin with until you learn.

I donā€™t understandā€¦?

This, I do feel a solution is needed here, maybe if you run out you have to pay? May be good compromise.

Let me hold you right there.

Sure, it wonā€™t exactly destroy games that have active maintainers; but it will most certainly destroy the immersion to a noticeable degree at minimum. If you get unlucky and run across an experience that gets hit really hard by this update, theyā€™ll probably have simply closed down. Remember that games on Roblox only have visuals and audio to work with in terms of immersion. Shoot one in the foot with a rocket, and youā€™ll essentially throw the game for a loop. Do you see the problem yet?
Additionally, you donā€™t seem to understand that the 10 to 100 audio limit is what most people are stuck with; and even for those with a limit large enough to re-upload all their audios, two weeks is simply not enough for many to adapt to this drastic change in time.

Iā€™d recommend Unity or Godot. Never used Unity myself, but Iā€™ve heard good things about it. Godot Iā€™ve used a bit before, and it wouldnā€™t be hard to go there from Roblox as there are a lot of similarities.

If you want some really cool graphics, Unreal Engine is a good choice as well.

If you want something like Roblox, Core Games is also an option. It uses Unreal Engine, and scripting is done in Lua.

If none of these are good options for you, Iā€™m sure a bit of internet surfing would give you some more options!

All jokes aside, Iā€™m bringing up this post I made that was hidden because ā€œidkā€, it is unlisted and hidden, but I think the poll can still be voted on so long as I dont close it.

https://devforum.roblox.com/t/deafening-of-march-22-audio-limits-poll/1702593

Just saying, you might want to vote just in case there is a constant, but there is also no trend so far - it seems to be a roughly 60-40 split between 10 and 2000.

yeah i know i said i was done with this thread but this whole situation is just insane and popcorn worthy.
also take some screenshots of the poll just in case there is a way mods can delete the entire post & its polls

Adding to that, there are games like Jailbreak, which has hundreds of audio.

Someone Explain to him about the issue before I say something stupid and possibly get myself banned.

About that, a common response I get from the big devs here is just hire people to fix that issue by hiring or contracting people with the skill set. as A Small Dev, I lack the funds to do such

Issue with that. AUDIO IS A KEY PART OF GAMES, So you rather have a good game but have it be weirdly silent for the whole time? Like, For example take a game you play a lot, and turn all sounds, Music, audio off. play it for a while, without any sound. That what this update will do to some games.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback on these proposals. I agree on all of your comments.

You mention that #2 has been an ongoing issue for a while ā€“ I think that is even more reason for this to be expedited. Itā€™s bizarre to upload new music today that you have a license for because itā€™s really unclear how to show the license. There is no schema. There is no attachment for canonical licenses. There is no verification tool for major 3rd parties which can attest to ownership. Itā€™s honestly bizarre.

Iā€™m glad you see #3 as potentially useful. It would be a fun hackathon to build a tool like that. To make it work, we would need real-world data of the music and accounts. There are some good Python libraries that could jumpstart this. We could prioritize the audio samples to find replacements for using a histogram of consumption levels (so we replace most used audio first on platform). We could apply human annotators to verify the quality of the highest priority sounds too. (Either biggest overall consumption or biggest impact to top games).

But who said jailbreak got 10 uploads? Surely Roblox thought about this before taking action.

Guys you know what, I think this is a great update. Roblox is always talking about ā€œpowering imaginationā€ so why not remove all sound from your games and let the players use their imagination to create the sound. Then they can hear whatever they want to! :+1: Right?!

Probably a lie, but if not, your one mighty fellow.

Yes! Such good!

wouldnt it be funny if we all switched to Core and roblox desperately tried to get the developers they took for granted back?

*Is roblox really fun to be a developer on anymore?

  • I find it fun!
  • I do not enjoy being a developer on Roblox
  • I do not know.

While Iā€™d like to say that Roblox did think on this update carefully, they probably had little time to do so. Jailbreak probably wonā€™t encounter too much issues, if any at all (I hope that is the case, otherwise that will be another problem of itā€™s own that this update will be responsible for). On the other hand however, if the development team for Jailbreak finds it not very feasible to accomplish the task within the given time windowā€¦
Smaller games that have a heavy reliance on audios not provided by Roblox in the library, will struggle greatly depending on how much resources in terms of time and upload limits are available to them. It wonā€™t be a pretty outcome when this update hits, for all but front-page games (and while one could speculate as to what could happen to the smaller front page games, weā€™ll make the assumption that they have been given the necessary audio upload limits and have the time to comply with the upcoming update).

I find developing fun yes. I like programming with a passion, however I hate how Roblox just dumps these downgrades updates on us that didnā€™t even need to be added. The hard part for me is Iā€™ve been on Roblox developing and scripting for the past 2 years, and Iā€™m still learning, and I really donā€™t want to change to something else, even though it may be best.

Thank you for responding to that guy, I just canā€™t handle any more of this mess, Iā€™m mostly done for today on this issue. Im burnt out trying to fix my games, 90% Chance im leaving Roblox forā€¦ something elseā€¦ if the update goes live

Ok, seriously someone on the staff team should have seen what weā€™ve been saying. This is ridiculous. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING!!!

I speculate the interns and the lower rank employees dislike this too
unless im completely wrong cuz this is complete speculation hehehehahehah

Roblox takes us for granted, they think we will stay through anything they throw at us.

Some people who know other coding languages may quit, but for me and others, we need to stay in roblox, thats the only thing we can use to develop for free.
Roblox knows this, and is pushing what they can do until they get a reaction.
Unfortunately, I think this will be the reaction, if news outlets jump on this (Which i doubt they will, hi ABC7 OYS.) Roblox will start a long descent until Roblox is like habbo hotel, a world ridden with scammers.

Say no to this update! Imagine all small developers not finding their audios, even those audios that have been made public by the author, all of those are going private. Sorry but this is nonsense. As I can see, Roblox got into a lawsuit, but that doesnā€™t justify Roblox making such decision on such short time and without even asking Developers opinions.
